Easy walk. Seeing good caves. There is a big cave slightly off track that you can go into along the creek. Best part of the walk. Must go.

A challenging hike so a reasonable level of fitness is required. An easy start of steps and board walks soon changes into the track, rock scramble and chains. Great on a dry day but in thr wet would it would be harder. The views are great as i went all the way to top which took alittle over 2.5 hours. Give it ago.

A nice very easy walk with some interesting thermals

Great trail. We were concerned from the number of cars that it might be crowded but after a large school group passed us coming down we had this beautiful trail to ourselves. Challenging but worth it.

Absolutely beautiful walk! Not difficult gradient wise, the 8 river crossings were well signed with orange triangles along with the rest of the track. 10/10

The lookout at the summit of the track provides stunning 360 degree views of the region, with the Hakarimata Ranges, Mt Te Aroha and more all visible on a clear day. Dogs are allowed on a lead.

Beautiful trail full of geothermal activity and views. When we went Inferno Lake it was a beautiful deep blue, and Frying Pan Lake was simmering. It was all amazing and a bit prehistoric/Jurassic.

Great hike one of the best so far in NZ!

I did the Tongariro Crossing couple months before this. Feel like both are as hard but the views throughout the loop are not as pretty. Lots of high steps and stairs. Now climbing to the top is definitely quite an experience. Would say that’s the highlight of my walk. Overnighted at the hut. Quite nice yet if you are looking for a good sleep after an exhausting day of walking, it’s not the place. We saw the sunset AND sunrise (you don’t even have to go up top to see the beautiful sunrise) We took Billygoat track on the way back. Definitely longer and harder than the other way. The track goes up for the first hour or so then mostly down and steep.

We loved this! Such a good mix of natural beauty and historical "ruins". There are many stairs involved and you'll need a torch.

Gets hot with all the steam so wear shorts and be prepared to de-layer. Cool walk that is $8 NZ and has some cool hissing steam vents

Beautiful trail. Steep stretches. Nice views. Abandoned gold mines along the way. Beware the mine bugs!

Absolutely beautiful manicured lake loop walk. I love it. I have been back 5+ times in the last couple months. Not many people there which makes it better as humans do ruin tracks with litter and overuse. Has small cabins dotted around the track used for duck shooting which is a shame to see. Takes about 45 minutes at a casual walking pace. Closes at night so you must be out by dark or you get locked in the carpark. Dogs must be on lead though or you get a $300 fine.

Cool trail. Continued on to Pirongia summit and back. Great challenging day hike.

Good variety of scenery -- beach, forest, rolling hillside -- for a relatively short hike. You can skip the Gem spur, nothing special down there except wet rocks, flies, and some signs about snorkeling. The Stingray spur is worthwhile for a quiet scenic cove. Lots of scenic views of the beach/rock formations/islands along the way

I wouldn't come here JUST for this trail, but the tunnel is absolutely worthwhile, especially when combined with the Windows trail and other sites in the area. The tunnel has fantastic echo and you can get some phenomenal pictures from inside

Tranquil scenery and fun tunnels to walk through. Some tunnels branch off the main trail and are pitch black -- headlight recommended though cell phone flashlight may get the job done. Was fun to turn the headlamp down low and navigate in limited light like the miners back in the day :) Instead of the simple out-and-back Alltrails recommends, you can come back on the Crown Tramway to complete the loop

Nice trail with a good view at the top. However the loop is not really interesting, I advice you to not do it, you'll save your effort ;)

Super petite randonnée de 10 min avec des escaliers taillés dans roche sur un ancien site maori ! Très belle vue à 200 degrés

not much to look at at the end. also you can park at the viewpoint.

Loved walking on the track, right next to the blue springs.

stairs Stairs STAIRS!!! Y'all weren't kidding about the stairs! I personally hate stairs, but if you're into that, this is a great hike for you. Only went to the first lookout point and almost died from all the freaking stairs. Beautiful falls, but definitely couldn't continue to the top. Whoever rated this as "moderate" is way more fit than me!!!

Went up via the beachside first which is a less steep but longer climb. Lots of ups and downs, a good challenge overall. Coming back down the other side was quite steep. Cloudy day but still nice views! Took 2hrs total

Good walk. Was tougher than I expected on a hot day but really worth it!!
