Rough track & practically all up hill but the sore glutes are well worth the amazing views from both the lower and upper look out! Amazing!!!

You must go to the top. Worth the effort as views are amazing !

Beautiful trek up, awesome views out over the Waikato

steep climb back up from bottom of water fall to trail

Beautiful trek up, many views along the way. Take plenty of sun protection.

A safe, easy short walk with excellent views. Take a torch.

Probably great for a family, not for the adventures

Very nice trail for a warm day! It winds through pretty rainforest the whole time and follows the river on occasion.
The view of the waterfall at the lookout is very impressive. As is the unusual perspective you get if you choose to walk all the way to the top. Very peaceful sunny spot for a picnic there :). Would do it again!

Went there last November. Pretty easy walk. Beautiful place.

Awesome! Views out over the Waikato from the top are amazing. Took our 6 year old this one, was a challenge but she loved it. Fully recommend

Awesome hike worth the trek going up.

There’s a scary ass 500m mine you have to walk through! But it’s a beautiful hike, made me think of Alice in Wonderland.

Very nice and easy trail with great views. You can turn at the base of the falls or climb higher to the top (plus 60-75min).

Beautiful walk and can be combined with the Windows Walk/loop. The walk follows the gorge most of the way, with a large tunnel towards the end. Some good swimming holes and river access in many places. Take a torch and wear good footwear as there are some dangerous pieces of steel sticking up in a few places.

TAKE A TORCH! Really enjoyable walk with lots to see along the way. Great views into the gorge and found it much better than the rail tunnel walk. If you have time, I recommend walking further up the gorge past the window walk. Around 30 mins will take you to another big tunnel and a swimming hole. There is also a full flow of water from a tunnel near the aforementioned tunnel. Then return and complete the Window Loop.

Great walk if you include a loop back on the other side of the Gorge. Why go back the same way. The loop trail is marked. Nice and cool in the tunnel.

Came here 25 years ago and had the beach to ourselves. Not the case anymore, a lot of people. Walking track is nice, its paved. The walk down and back is worth it. Take one of the buses from the bottom of the road to the trail head. You will not get a park at the top unless you are super early.

lovely day walk with great views.

The North Road end of the of the track is in good condition and relatively easy to follow. The Ohinewai Rd end of the track has become seriously overgrown with numerous tree falls, and obscured track markers. That end of the track doesn't appear to be maintained and looked little used. We frequently lost the the track and had to use GPS Topomap apps to refind it. The recommended time for the track is 8 hours but we are a fairly fit bunch and normally do it in 6 hours. This time it took us over 8 hours. We've advised DOC Waikato of what we found, and don't intend to do this route again until we get confirmation that it is safer to use.

I'm from the US and did this hike a few weeks ago when a friend and I dropped our other friends off at the Hobbinton tour. It was about 30 min from there and an easy drive. Easily identifiable by signs. We only had about an hour and a half so we just hiked to the falls and back. BEAUTIFUL scenery of all kinds; water, trees, rocks, falls, etc. Just a little muddy. Easy hike for the majority until you get to closer to the falls where most of the incline is stairs. I definitely recommend if you're in the area!

I visited Cathedral Cove in mid-January as a stop on an adventure tour I was on. Expect to take this hike with several new "friends" -- it was SO crowded (lots of families)! Beautiful ocean views make up for the lackluster path for most of the walk. There's a steep hill before you reach the beach, which only feels troublesome on the return with your sandy feet. The arch-cave is magnificent and even though the beach cove is riddled with people, it somehow retains a secluded feeling. I'm glad I saw this, but mixed on whether I need to return.

Hike is longer than you think, 45 min one way. But the caves are cool. Heavily visited by tourists via hiking, water taxis, and kayaking. Bring water on a hot day.

This is a great trail! We did this in February of 2015. Lots of hills but still great. My 3 yr old did alright, it's hard to tell if she was really tired or just wanted her uncle's attention so she kept asking him to carry her. But she did manage almost all of the trail.

Beautiful place with a great reward, the cove is breathtaking!

Only did the last half or so of this trail into Huka falls, but the trail was nice and well maintained. Fairly easy going through bush alongside the Waikato river. The falls offers up some pretty nice views as well.
