Incredible

Very cool trail! A lot of stairs (mostly natural). Great views. Definitely worth to go there!!

There’s a scary ass 500m mine you have to walk through! But it’s a beautiful hike, made me think of Alice in Wonderland.

This is one of the great walks of NZ North Island. The hike starts at the very back of the Kauaeranga Valley end dirt road in the Coromandel Forest. It is approximately 9.2 to 10.5 miles round trip depending on whether you take the Billy Goat loop or direct in-out via the Web Creek Trail. Since we wanted the most direct route we took Web Creek which started as a wide dirt road and slowly climbed past the main river and up pass several washed out bridges.

Once past the first major junction the track starts to climb steadily with many stairs over the next 2 miles. Be amazed by the cobble path that shows the way once used by pack animals and their drivers who worked the dams and Kauri logging years before.

When the trail flattens out it joins the Pinnacles Track and it is now a generally open ridge hike. Here there are views of the mountains and you can see the various lava plugs remaining.

At the last mile past the Pinnacles Hut, we could see the prominant feature of the Pinnacles. It looms large and steep. The path becomes stairs and ladders, and soon its a scramble over the rock face with “via feratta” like metal handholds to the top.

At the top, its an amazing 360 view of the Coromandel. We contoured past the first few pinnacles to the last one and there we perched for a relaxing view that was just right and hard to beat.

Overall, it is truly one of the great walks!

Came here 25 years ago and had the beach to ourselves. Not the case anymore, a lot of people. Walking track is nice, its paved. The walk down and back is worth it. Take one of the buses from the bottom of the road to the trail head. You will not get a park at the top unless you are super early.

Breathtaking views and a very well maintained hut await you at the top. Wake up early and hike up to the top of the nearby mountain for the sunrise to see the meaning of life. Also, this is one of the best full-loop hikes we did in New Zealand.

I visited Cathedral Cove in mid-January as a stop on an adventure tour I was on. Expect to take this hike with several new "friends" -- it was SO crowded (lots of families)! Beautiful ocean views make up for the lackluster path for most of the walk. There's a steep hill before you reach the beach, which only feels troublesome on the return with your sandy feet. The arch-cave is magnificent and even though the beach cove is riddled with people, it somehow retains a secluded feeling. I'm glad I saw this, but mixed on whether I need to return.

Hike is longer than you think, 45 min one way. But the caves are cool. Heavily visited by tourists via hiking, water taxis, and kayaking. Bring water on a hot day.

This is a great trail! We did this in February of 2015. Lots of hills but still great. My 3 yr old did alright, it's hard to tell if she was really tired or just wanted her uncle's attention so she kept asking him to carry her. But she did manage almost all of the trail.

Beautiful place with a great reward, the cove is breathtaking!
