Really great track. We hiked from Marahau to Wharawhangi then back to Tortoranui to catch a water taxi back. The hike was mostly flat but there were still many locations where the forest opened up giving way to a great view of the coast. It was also very nice to camp right on all the amazing beaches and go for a swim each day! Great hike would highly recommend!

The trail was not well marked. We were on our way to observation Bay but the signs were unclear as to where it was. We walked down to Anchorage then walked back up to the trail and started to ask people if they had seen the turn off. They said they did, so that kept us going.
Other than that, it’s an easy trail.

Incredibily diverse if you use the high tide trail. Sand, jungle-like forest, shore, stone - everything's included.
Recommend thick, non slippery footwear.

Very easier path to access to the waterfall. If you like waterfall it is a good one, but not the best one. It’s possible to swim at the bottom inside the pool, the water is so clear.

Don’t let the short distance fool you, there is a lot of elevation and some quite steep parts to the trail, as well as a few obstacles. All that a side, it’s a great climb, if you are of average fitness and agility you will be fine. There’s lots of shaded areas to hide away from the sun. The cave itself is spectacular and well worth the climb. The walk/climb itself is brilliant fun. Crossing over a dried up river bed, using branches and footholds in stone and mud to get around/over obstacles.

Well worth a visit.

A decent trail to do if you are in the area, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there though. A nice easy walk (perfect if you have small or younger children, the spring is nice. Sheltered from the sun.

There are better walks in the area. Has a great swimming hole near the start, and provides assess to rock climbing.

Great walk. Don't bother with the loop, just do the water race part.

Don't bother with the loop. Just do there and back on the water race part.

Worth the climb to see the cave.

This really shouldn’t be one of the Great Walks. It’s not so much of a hike as it is a stroll. It’s almost entirely flat, and the uphill sections are short and not steep. There is literally not a single part of this trail that’s demanding. I hiked days 1-3 (Aowara - Marahau) in under 6 hours. Also, it’s pretty busy and only rewards you very occasionally with views as most of the time the canopy hides everything.

There are much better hikes to do around here, whether you’re in it for the challenge or the views.

Trail starts off fairly easy. You cross a dry river bed and then follow it for a while. And then your climb begins. Be prepared for some slick rocks and possibly mud. I had to use my hands a few times to help myself up/down the trail. Lots of elevation gain in a short distance! Bring water and don’t be fooled by the people in flip flops! Also...lots of flies that taunt you the whole time. At least they don’t bite! The cave is pretty amazing. It can be slick going to the platform so be careful! Enjoy!

Easy trail and the largest freshwater spring is pretty neat! You can see right to the bottom. Saw ducks too! We did the “short loop”, although I never saw where there was a longer one.

Nice trail, a little busy south of totaranui.

beautiful walk. kids love the little bridges. Won't do the entire loop track again though.

great walk. kids handle it well.

So pretty !

We hiked the Abel Tasman Coast Track to Coquille Bay and back. We started on the Coast Track car park which has bathrooms and a cafe. The trail is very well labeled with signs that tell you how many meters and minutes to each point of interest. We knew we didn’t want to go too far so we picked Coquille Bay which the sign said was 50 minutes out. We arrived there at a leisurely pace with many photo stops in exactly 50 minutes. Would highly recommend the Coast Track for novices or intense trampers (you can go 60km over multiple days).

Go early in the morning at low tide. There's so much to explore. Watch out for seals in caves, I almost tripped over one that was chillin'. We also watched a baby seal that was playing in a low tide pool while mother was out doing her thing. Great experience.

very wonderfull view

An exceedingly frustrating, awful and yet extremely gratifying experience. I named this trek "The Neverending Story" by the end of it as the challenges never seemed to stop. Well worth the effort to say you did it in my opinion, but plan ahead and be ready for a considerable challenge.

Such a good Great Walk catered to fit people who want to try something new. Just make sure you have really good shoes because the final decent on the first day is really steep and it can be very slippery if wet.
