There are awesome mountain bike trails here.

A very good not too difficult walk if of reasonable fitness. Extremely steep climb up the infamous Puffer Track, ( a gravel 4 wheel drive track) combined with native bush. Excellent views from both Makatawa track, and the Tower

This track leads to spectacular views of Mt Taranaki and beautiful alpine scenery. Lots of interesting alpine plants and temperate rainforest to see along the way. In days gone by this track was very wet underfoot and on occasions was the equivalent of walking up a stream on wet days. It has now been more or less completely covered with boards so is an easy walk up to the Hut. Unfortunately this has now resulted in a huge increase in visitors. One to avoid if you are after some solitude

Easy leisurely stroll in the beautiful native bush with some history along the way. Child friendly

A great loop track taking in Alpine tussock country and montane forest. A few small river crossings that should be negotiated with care after heavy rain. The Lower Lake Dive track can be very wet underfoot.

We did this walk by starting up the puffer track to the lookout, then back via the Veronica loop. Nice walk, not completely maintained. Good for a short walk (40mins)

Amazing views on Mount Taranaki.

So beautiful, make sure you hike up beside the pools, it gets more magical the higher you climb, go for a dip too :)

I loved this trail because it was a bit different. You get a nice historical leisurely hike through beautiful wilderness.

This tramp was amazing. Lots of stairs and some sections are quite steep. Coming down past Henry Peak towards the visitors centre was very rough. Lots of tree roots, mud, and large step ups/downs. Poles are highly recommend if you are shorter. Park at the Kaiauai car park, take that to Kokowai Track, that connects with Holly Hut track past the section that is closed due to a slip. There is a side trip about 40 min from Holly Hut to Bells Falls- so worth it! We stayed in Holly Hut the first night and walked the second half the next day. 5.5 hours each both days, including the side trip to Bells Falls. It took us about 3.5 hours to get from the Kaiauai car park to Holly Hut. If you park at the visitors centre it supposedly adds an extra 90 min at the start and end.

a great track full of amazing views....

Short and quick little hike that is straight up. Great vistas of New Plymouth and the Tasman Sea.
The entire hike is stairs and an ascending rock scramble that uses metal chains for stability. So be physically prepared for a short but aggressive ascent.

Took 10 minutes to climb up. Nice views at the top of New Plymouth, Mt. Taranaki, and the Tasman Sea.

It’s hard but I highly recommend that. The view is amazing, unforgettable!!!

Nice walk; not very challenging but nice environment...definitely wouldn't do it in flip flops though unless you want to get your feet ripped up on the gravel and high potential to slide in the muddy sections...we walked it in winter....

Loved! It’s a beautiful hike and the trail is...interesting. They aren’t joking when they say it isn’t maintained. The forest is taking over that one fore sure.

Great walk. Great track. Gorgeous views. Very much recommended.

Great track to walk/run. I went to TOPEC and did their rogaine course they set up. No way it should be difficult. Loved it

Amazing track to walk/run along

Fun track, at the top end of the loop divert up for another 15mins to get to the viewing point.

Excellent short circuit to some pristine running pools with a great view of the region from said pools. Really beautiful especially the sounds and the running creeks on the way back down. Be careful at the pools themselves as the rocks are quite slippery and their is no stairs/handrails.

Moderate hike thru wonderful forest with thousands of steps and demanding hills. Very low traffic, scenic lookout and greats bridges over troubled water.
Add the loop to the Dawson Falls and the Wilky pools for a perfect afternoon.

awesome

It was not quite what I was expecting, the bush was really thick and the bugs were swarming us the whole time. It probably would have been fine, but we had our 8 month old baby strapped on and she was unhappy about it. We ended up turning around mid way and coming back. Would have been cool to make it to the top, but it just wasn’t the Hike for us

Good view of the 'naki!

No way this should be difficult. I did it in flip flops after church one morning.

Beautiful track with sporadic scenic views of Mount Taranaki and Lake Manhamahoe. There is a Redwood Forest hiding on this track as well! Nice picnic areas at the beginning and end. I followed upper track and ended up walking the main road at the end.

Steep climb with the top requiring you to scramble across rocks. Fun for the adventure driven walker! Short trip to the top with a breathtaking view.
