One of the shortest and most beautiful hike we could do in New Zealand !! The panorama is beautiful !!

If there are tours busses in the parking lot chill in the car until the leave, it will be much more pleasant of a walk without a bus full of people pushing you into the railing for a photo.

A must do.

Cool chasm, very short hike, if you get here at the wrong time it’ll be full of busloads of people because it is on a boardwalk and easily accessible by anyone. This is not a hike it’s a very short walk!

Very pleasant track. It's 22 km from Iris Burn to Rainbow Reach car park, and it's doable in one day. Or you can stay at the Moturau hut. But it's just 6km from the hut to the first parking lot (Rainbow Reach). You go through various green areas: forest, wetlands. Very nice surroundings.

Luxmore hut is amazing.

11 hours return from Te Anau to Luxmore's Summit (1 hour stop). Really beautiful at the top! Long but not difficult, first part of the trail mostly plain (2 hours), then you start going up. Trail in very good conditions.

An apparently mandatory stop for anyone, or any tour bus, driving to or from Milford Sound. So, it's easy to be cynical, but as it turns out, the Chasm is pretty cool. We were given 20 minutes for the stroll, but some of the tours must give people much less, because some poor souls were virtually running along the route. The instructions from our driver were to "Try not to fall in to, or drop anything, into the Chasm". Excellent advice.

Short steep hike up from the Borland Saddle on a well marked trail that is steep and potentially wet/slippery in places. I fell once, but I am clumsy. More information at https://www.doc.govt.nz/mt-burns-tarns-track. The start of the trail is well-marked as Mount Burns Tops. Starts in the trees, but most of the time you are in high grass. A bit boggy at the top. I enjoyed it, but it's a long drive up a slightly stressful gravel road, so you would want to do more than just this once up on the saddle. I had a very nice talk with a local farmer while waiting for maybe a million of his sheep to clear the road while changing grazing areas. Consider this when budgeting time for the drive.

An easy stroll. It's beautiful wherever you look. No sandflies at all when it is raining, and the rain amps up the waterfalls.

Incredible setting for an easy hike. We took a picnic. Sand flies weren’t bad.

Great easy hike for a cool gorge.

As a one-day hike, great for those who want to discover the Kepler. 1 hour and a bit to go to brod bay, then with good fitness and good weather the distance to Luxmore hut can be divided by 2. Which makes it more a 2 to 3 hour climb to the hut (I did it in 2). The way up through the bush can be a bit boring but that is what it takes and the vegetation remains interesting. Once at the hut I really recommend keeping climbing up to Mount Luxmore. It is another hour / hour and a half but the 360 degrees view up there is wonderful ! In the end it is a good +-32 km track. If you are scared of the distances don't forget that you can take the boat from Te anau to Brod bay campsite, which will save you around 10 k (but will cost you). Another option is to stay overnight camping at Brod bay (before the start of the track or at the end). In good weather, the place is lovely. You can swim in the lake and watch the sunset/sunrise on Lake Te Anau.

Super easy and short walk we did on the way to our cruise through Milford Sound. Compared to what we saw on the boat these views are barely much, but still beautiful to see nonetheless.

The Chasm Path is a well-maintained gravel walkway through lush green forest to a series of bridges overlooking the Cleddau River with its powerful waterfalls and smooth round potholes carved by the swirling water. Only a few miles from Milford Sound and just off the main Milford Road, this is a short but worthwhile stroll.

Well, if you want a challenging hike, you found it here! Due to the climate of this region, expect this trail to be very wet - several mud bogs to cross over, plus slippery roots and four creek crossings (with slippery rocks). You can see some amazing flora and fauna here, particularly birdlife. Give yourself plenty of time: the sign posted at the trailhead is full of lies (2 hours one way is optimistic). As much as it was a challenge, it was one of the most memorable hikes I've done. Bring spare socks to stay dry!
