beautiful track, with nice foresty stuff. At the top the access is prohibited because of private land

Quite steep at times, rocky climbing near the end, stunning views at the top and the formation of the rocks are beautiful. Rocks are quite slippery. Walk fine for kids rock climbing was slow going but manageable.

beautiful view at the top. rock hopping in glacier basin

Awesome hike! Very steep climb for the last 4 hours towards the hike - a real treat awaits at the top though!

Hiked from the Roy's Peak carpark to the Cardrona Valley Road. 5hr 25mins, great conditions and the trail is in good shape.

loved it. busy. but so worth it.

Definitely gets steep on both the left and right way up.

Super easy quick walk, pretty busy though compared to most of the tracks I’ve done in NZ. pools are really pretty though! Worth the drive, that in itself is pretty. Try jumping off the bridge into the water!! Refreshing, to say the least

Super great track!! We got a perfect day, sunny and 17 degrees C in mid April. Trail was moderately busy but everyone we saw was in good spirits. Generally a pretty decently easy track but the first half of the way in can get you a little tired, but definitely one of the easier hikes I have done in NZ. absolutely breathtaking views at the beginning and end of the trail, the glacier was amazing! The cows at the car park and beginning of the trail were super cute as well. Disappointed we didn’t see any kea but still a 10/10 hike!!!

Pretty easy and quick hike up to the lake. Great views and super clear water. Good for a less intense hike!

Pretty good trail. Great views over the lake, Queenstown, and the Remarkables at the top. Definitely recommend for the sunset.

Nice relaxed hike. First part is in the forest and then its opened and no shade. About 1.5hrs max one way in slow pace.
If you know a well kept secret this hike can continue from Marian lake viewpoint for another 2kms to a stunning viewpoint...

Beautiful trail in the valley. I did it from muddy Creek to Paradise. Muddy is the term for the trek ! Especially the first day, my feet were completely wet and if you're not careful, you can get mud to the knee.
The views are stunning all along, and the huts are very confortable !
Take the time to do the cascade saddle as a side trip, it's worth it ! For the fastest, you can combine the second or the third day with the cascade saddle (it's a very long day but doable)

Beautiful trail, wonderful view on top. Perfect for trail running.
I did a side trip from the Dart hut. The trail is following the river in the valley for 6/7km before going up to the saddle. Some landslides happened so there are a few parts that are a bit tricky. especially after a day of rain, it must be really slippery!

The first part of the track through the waterfall is very open, easy, and well-kept. After that it gets a lot steeper and rockier, earning the “Hard” difficultly. The lake is absolutely gorgeous!! I recommend going earlier in the day rather than later so the sun hits the mountain in the background just the right way.

Great climb up...take the right way all the way up to the summit and then the other side down! More safe this way with kids...steep cliffs, rocky and muddy! Way down much easier on the other side! View from the top is amazing! Worth the climb!

Very easy trail up to the lake for the whole family. Really cool alpine experience for such little effort.

Beautiful, quite steep and rocky but worth it. We took our 8 & 6 year old and they managed.

Great hike uphill! With some short stops on the way up, a good walk to do with a 5 and 11yrs old girls!! The views are 1 in a million!!

Stunning track with vistas of huge mountains and glaciers all the way to Liverpool Hut. Really easy walking along valley floor until the really steep ascent to the Hut, which has some hands on sections.

An outstanding tramp. Wonderful views, great facilities. Highly recommend this.

Was a beautiful day. We hiked this trail in early April and the weather was fabulous. We are not the quickest hikers but made it to the top in a couple of hours. Veiws were well worth the effort. Make sure to dress in layers as the bottom of the trail is under cover and was cool but as we climbed needed to peel off some layers.

This is a great short hill hike - with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains / lake / towns - well worth the trip up.

Absolutely the best hike I've ever done. So lucky to have clear skies on the mountain on day two, with epic views of snow-covered mountains surrounding me.

I did the Shelter - Divide route, but there was a slip between Howden Hut and the Divide so I took the Pass Creek alternate, and it actually worked out wonderfully. Pass Creek is rocky, muddy and a bit "back country" which was a nice change from the well maintained paths of the main route.

Try to start your assent to Conical Hill before dawn so you can watch the sun rise. The variety of terrain, vegetation and surrounds makes this hike absolutely brilliant. This hike was HEAVEN and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Absolutely stunning trail with spectacular scenery at the summit. Trail is pretty steep all the way to the top. There’s a good path to the Hut and about 500m after the Hut. Then it’s a relatively easy scramble/route finding to the top.
