The walk is boring, but the view is fantastic !

i camped there and i saw almost a perfect milky way and a beautiful sun raise.

Great hike. Steep in places but worth it for the view at the top. Recommend walking the west to east option.

Great walk. It was covered in snow and the track wasn't easily visible at the top.

Lovely track, great views, interesting limestone formations. The side track (not sign posted) to a rocky outcrop is a must! Unfortunately mostly in shade in winter.

Would love to know how all trails rates these. I would 100% rate this as difficult. However the trail itself is very well maintained (careful of cow paddy’s and sheep turds, but you are walking through their home). I knew it would be uphill the entire way through research. We did a sunrise hike starting at 4am, getting to the top in just shy of 3 hours. The clouds rolled in pretty thick so we couldn’t see Wanaka and the lake, but the sunrise was beautiful along with the mountains all around. It is a fairly boring walk up but the view up top is worth it!

Great hike with amazing views of Lake Wanaka. This hike is not near Glenorchy as per the description

Took the Gondola up and started from there. Took us 5h30 return (1h20 to the saddle and about 1h30-45 to the summit). It snowed the day before so it was really nice going up but when going down, the sun had melted most of the snow so it became really muddy/slippy.

Absolutely stunning

Magnificent. Beautiful rain forest, bridge crossings, waterfalls. Unfortunately snow closed the pass the night before so we couldn't complete the full track but we hope to come back and finish it off next year.

Beautiful views with some occasional and welcome shade. The rating is accurate - hard - with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain per mile.

Great views. Fair bit of exposure after Harris Saddle. Faced unusually heavy rain fall, hail and snow while camping in mid April 2018. Otherwise enjoyable.

Great view of the river , Alpine , glacier , birds.

Hiking with slightly snowfall is incredibly beautiful !
met 2 kea at the end of the track. perfect hiking.

I hiked this trail last week with two friends. I work out 4-5 times a week, but I’m 38, overweight, and not exactly in shape. Also, I haven’t been hiking since last fall because of winter (I’m from the northern hemisphere). So, judging from some of the reviews and the fact that this is 4.85 mile uphill track, I wasn’t sure how far I’d get. We started a little before 4am with the goal of reaching the summit by sunrise. The moon was bright and the stars were brilliant. I took my time, stopping often to catch my breath. I reached the first lookout a few minutes after 7am- just in time to catch the first rays of the sun as it came over the eastern mountain. The view is unbelievable. The other two had made it in less time. We stayed there for awhile, then headed on up to the actual summit. The phenomenal views make every inch of the climb worthwhile! That 4.85 mile downhill track is hard on the knees and toes! Good footwear is a must. I can’t imagine making that climb in heat and sunlight. The darkness made it easier since I couldn’t see how far I still had to go. This was definitely a highlight of my NZ trip!

Awesome views from the top. Took just under an hour for me to reach the summit. Definitely worth checking out !

Pretty easy with stunning views!

Lovely views & nice trail! Saw some sheep :)

Great hike - harder for the littlest kids but amazing views, a variety of micro-climates, well maintained trails, and a fantastic drive-in with beautiful farms and sheep. Bring a car/truck w enough clearance (0.5 m) to ford the streams en route to the parking area. Was a terrific 1/2 day hike

Absolutely love the Routeburn... I’ve done it twice with my two daughters (11 & 13) so many highlights.

A beautiful hike that is on the shorter side but very steep. We hiked up and rode the gondola down. Lots of shade along the way, very little sun exposure. Worth the work to get up to the summit without taking the Gondola.

Most amazing hike I've ever done. The views are spectacular but be prepared for LOTS of rain and very technical/rough terrain. This is definitely not a hike for beginners and day 2 is rough. That being said, it's the most amazing trek I've ever done in my life and I can't wait to do another Great Walk in New Zealand.

Great hike with amazing views of Queenstown and a 360 view at the top! your legs will feel it after this hike, in a good way.

I am 57 and hike a fair amount and in good shape with no injuries. I took the gondola up to the start point vs taking the Tiki Trail.

Note, the gondola starts at 9am or 10am depending on the season.

it took 1.75 hours to get to the saddle including picture stops. The trail is well-marked and mostly in the open so you can actually see where the trail is going to up ahead. it is mostly an incline all the way to the saddle with only a couple of flat spots. the trail is hard pack and worn with some loose rocks but very manageable. There is a small bench at the saddle that overlooks valleys and other peaks. also, it is very windy here at the saddle.

Another 45 minutes to the top. this part of the trail is a significant incline all the way and there are spots where you will need to step high or scramble over some rocks. if you have ever hiked Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale Arizona, this part of the hike will be no problem for you. the trail is easy to follow and, with the number of people on the trail, you can see where they are headed so getting lost is not an issue.

if you are going on the summer, be prepared as nearly all of the trail is out on the open with NO shade from the sun.

nice hike along the lake just outside Queenstown. GPS is inaccurate and you need to keep going until you see the Bob's Cove Recreation Area sign. there are a couple of steeper spots on this hike but very manageable.
