I was fortunate to hike this trail on a semester abroad to NZ. Amazing trail, some of the best views I’ve ever had.

So I guess I'm the first Debby downer that didn't love this trail. The view at the top is spectacular (it's a 5star view, really beautiful) especially with the glacier in the distance, but going up and coming down is in full sunlight with the same (beautiful but unchanging) scenery for hours of grueling uphill track endlessly switching back and forth. There aren't any rocks to climb over or anything to make it more fun. Just steep uphill walking for hours. The track is more like a dirt road with its width. Maybe I'm being too harsh because of the amazing trails we've done in the north and south islands but this one I would not do again, nor would I honestly recommend it. Just FYI We did 2hrs 25 mins to the top, and 1hr 25 to get down. We are fit but don't hike super often.

Awesome views from the top!

Excellent views of lake wanaka! Moderate hike but challenging enough!

A very nice easy hike through a pretty forest to this serene and beautiful alpine lake. Do not expect any views until you get to the lake :). Walking by the roaring waters of The Gantry is impressive, but it’s not a water fall as some descriptions suggest. Enjoy!

Nice hike with awesome scenery of rugged peaks all around. It takes about 2 h 30 min including an extended lunch break :). Start the loop at the camping and picnic area. There are drop toilets. At the “peninsula” into the lake you can hike up a small ridge for a great view and rest stop. When you get towards the end of the loop you can either return to the car park via the dirt road or for a little while through the grass along the lake. If you choose the grass route, be prepared to climb some fences!

I’m not super fit and I did the hike up in 2 hours and 20 min with a 10kg camera bag on my back. Totally worth it. Amazing views and great sunset.

A fantastic, but challenging one day 25km hike from Routeburn to Harris Saddle and back. Conical Hill is a must, the views were incredible. Even got to see Milford Sound.

Beautiful walk, although got lost in the dunes at the North end of the beach as the posts are not that clear beware!

Really recommend that walk. Go to the summit, the view is way better from there and these are only around 15min more.
You will find your way to the top but there aren’t a lot of signs.

Very steep, but worth it for the views. Took 2.5 hours to top and 2 hours back down.

Like others we really loved this hike. It was pretty much a steep hike from the start with pretty amazing views all the way up. Bring sunscreen and a decent amount of water if it’s warm. We over-prepared on clothing as the temps were supposed to be in the teens but it felt much warmer so we quickly shed layers and were fine.

It took us 4.5 hours round trip and 3 plus a little to the top. We jogged a bit on the way down which is why we beat the average. Our legs were pretty sore the next day as we haven’t been doing a lot of distance hiking recently.

took the Gondola up. still a hard hike, but excellent trail and 360 views. pair of Kea's live near the summit and will come and beg for snacks.
the wind can get pretty strong at the top. well worth doing

This is a good hike from the dock. It is a steep out and back. Wondrous views from the top. Go to the top summit, not just the metal cauldron. it took us, average hikers about 80 mins to the summit and an hour back to the docks.

nice and quite easy

good hike with nice view on the wanaka lake. could be dangerous at some place (very narrow)

Enjoyed the rock scramble on the west side of the loop. Super duper windy at the top. Did not expect that. Lots of people.

The hike to Brewster Hut (parking at Fantail Falls) is not easy as this suggests. It’s incredibly steep the whole way, but you’re rewarded with incredible views of mountains, a glacier and waterfalls. The hut itself is pretty nice with a large deck area. There are no stoves but there is drinking water available. There is a river crossing right at the beginning so don’t bother putting your shoes on till your across. It would be difficult to cross following a heavy rain. Follow the orange triangles on trees all the way up!

Love this hike a true kiwi trail

My husband and I did this hike our first full day on the South Island . We recommend taking the gondola up and starting the hike from there. Your knees definitely won't regret it on the way down

I really liked this hike but I recommend starting along the water first. We completed this in under three hours and that was including stopping to take pictures. This hike gives you scenery of the lake, a small waterfall, some wild flower and mountains.

Great Walk though old bush down to the beach, then less than 10 mins to caves. Get there 1 hr before low tide. Doesn't take long to explore cave, but you must be out of the car park by 2 hrs after low tide. $5 for adults $1 kids. Check their website for low tide times.

Nice trail through great natural bush. Some stairs. Beautiful cascading waterfall.

Short easy walk to a very cool place

Wow! What an amazing experience, we hiked the track in time for sunrise yesterday, the track was well mapped and easy to navigate with a head torch, we carried on the extra 17km of the skyline track, (keep going after Roy's peak) Mt alpha, is higher and more stunning fyi.... The skyline track was great up until the last 8-10km of decent of farming land so we thought upon reflection we would have had better terrain and views if we'd just turned back after 15km or so.... Great day out though

This trail is certainly hard, very steep! The peak is actually private property so there isn’t public access to the top. You can trespass if you’re feeling like living life on the edge but since the tail ends it is very rocky terrain, lots of brush and some the will give you gnarly pokes. Overall the train was awesome! Just wish you could easily get to the top especially after all the hard work. Great views regardless though!

Positive: nice view around you.
Negative: busy trail

Beautiful view of the lake prior to reaching clouds recommend gloves for summit

Beautiful hike. Steep at the start. Track very clear until you reach the top. Follow the stakes, some were hard to see! Would highly recommend. Take lots of water and start in the morning as no shade on the top!
