Steep single track start and opens up later. Climb steadily up to summit road. We then turned left along summit road and came back down along Rapaki trail. Look out for Roger's Trail on your left which takes you back down to the car park where you started (Mt Vernon Park)

Like walk in the park easy peasy

Fantastic afternoon walk. If the weather is good the views are amazing looking down Lyttelton harbour. The track ends at Packhorse hut, you can use the hut and even stay the night if you plan to carry on walking.

Went with my mountain bike.
amazing track. most of it is on the road or on gravel.
I would suggest to take the camp track once you reached the Larnach Castle instead of the Castlewood road.
the camp track is a beautiful downhill. a real treat after the whole trip going uphill.

Note: Instead of completing the loop, we followed the Queenstown, Frankton, and Kelvin Peninsula trails to the point and then backtracked the same way (approximately 20.7 miles in all).

The trails are shared with pedestrians, but we didn’t encounter much traffic on our midweek ride. All three trails are scenic, but the Kelvin Peninsula trail is particularly stunning, with Alpine gardens on one side and the lake on the other. Be prepared to stop every few minutes to take photos.

Fairly easy track but has some seemingly never-ending hills.
Some parts of the pathway are scenic but many parts are simply a department of conservation access road
Didn't see a single other person during my walk

Easy track through mostly grasslands
A few nice views of the coastline, and an excellent walk along the beach when the tide is low. Unfortunately lots of the canopy has been cleared away for farmlands
Medium traffic; saw a few runners and a couple other hikers along the way

Great in the dry, a tendency to be slippery after rainfall in Forrest sections. Great fun.

Good mountain bike track. Did this with a company that picked us up from the other side which was helpful.

This is a great trail, bit of a climb up to the summit but defintely runnable. There are tunnels so take a head torch (or other light). Once at the top, it id downhill to the carpark.
