Did this trail on Tuesday, February 25. The day was sunny and I was perfectly comfortable in shorts and short sleeves. Is mostly up-hill from either direction and peaks at the look-out point next to German Hill. Beautiful views towards Lake Hayes and Cecil Peak. Recommend the quick scurry to the top of German Hill. And the short detour to the Norman Smith Bridge in the Arrow River Gorge. About 1/3-1/2 in open tussock, so sunblock is recommended. Due to recent rains and stream-crossings, a couple spots that are muddy and guaranteed to dirty your shoes. No water sources, so bring your own. Was a bit overgrown in areas, but I don’t mind that much personally. I started from the Arrow River Gorge/Trail, and did the loop counter-clockwise, which I would recommend. Happy trails!

Long walk for not so impressive views. Large part is through the forest. Only the last few kilometers are outside the forest, but the scenery is not great. In conclusion: not worth the effort.

Hard trail with plenty of wind and incline up top. Taking the gondola up would take the sting out.

Nice hike. Not to Hard. Little Bit boring in the beginning, but once you leave the forest it is amazing

Good hike with some challenging bits. Not easy for all but not too difficult. We found the long downhill bit to finish difficult on toes and knees but worth it. It is a very cool hike.

Well, have heard about this trail for a long time. Finally had the opportunity to do it. Perfect weather, sunny and no clouds. Didn’t seem all that crowded but maybe we anticipated much worse (like Hooker Valley). Without a doubt, the most diverse trail I’ve ever seen, both respect to terrain/views and technique. That being said, scree is not all that fun, but perfectly fine if you take your time. The nice surprise if the forested portion at the end. Wish we would have budgeted more time to take along that section, but we had a bus to catch. Great trail.

the view that you get isn't that great. but it's pretty much the best you can get due to the many years of receding glacier.

Beautiful hike. A few steep spots but mostly pretty gradual. Bits overgrown but nothing difficult. Some forested parts, some wide open fields, traversing side of the mountain. Lots of little stream crossings you can walk through with boots

Beautiful, easy trail to an ancient Maori settlement. Incredible views.
