Needs maintenance, if a lot of rain it would be very easy to slip down a steep bank

Great views of all the water falls, glacier and sky line

Amazing! Some steep bits. A walking stick can help!

great trail. Best done on a fine day. Read the train timetable wrong so walked back again. 4 hours there and back .

An exceedingly frustrating, awful and yet extremely gratifying experience. I named this trek "The Neverending Story" by the end of it as the challenges never seemed to stop. Well worth the effort to say you did it in my opinion, but plan ahead and be ready for a considerable challenge.

Great views of Kapiti Island, worth starting South end and popping into Paekakariki at the end.

Better start in Paekakariki and train back

This was such a great experience hiking in the snow. Crampons a definite must have. The views and the majestic alpine scenery made this hike so worthwhile!

Quite an easy trail to walk if you have some experience in tramping. I would have much preferred if I brought my mountain bike with me though. When driving in there are a few fords so if just rained and your cars suspension is low, good luck.

The trail is very easy. However it is really used for accessing the cave. If you do enter the cave it will be quite cold without a wetsuit.

Although the rating says it is hard it is really just how steep it is. It is quite consistent throughout. Make sure you wear well fitted good quality shoes. When I did the track my shoes weren't broken into. The last stretch of the track was painful. As long as you are somewhat fit you will be able to complete it in the time guideline.

The trail is well groomed and the track is smooth. If you are fairly fit this will be very easy.

Easy flat ride

Good easy way to get to the summit

Lot of stairs to climb but worth to do it.

What a lovely route... beautiful!!!!!

Steep climb but great views from the top

This was my first Great Walk and such a eye opener to what is out there. I was seven when completed it and although challenging, it was and fun experience.

A phenomenal well rounded Great walk.

This trail is great for a relatively fit family, however when I went there the second day was terrifying, there were wind of up to 100k/h in Christchurch, while trying to get
Down there were wind of at least 200-300k/h. We were so lucky to meet some experienced trampers who assisted us down the mountain.

One of the harder Great Walks in my opinion, although the age recommendation is ten my brother was seven when he did it. He survived, but it took a toll on him. If you are afraid of heights I wouldn't recommend this because during most of the second day, if you trip, you will go rolling down the cliff.

Super easy day track if you want to now what tramping is like. From a person who has been tramping since they were quite young this was a piece of cake. My intermediate school took me there and it was a really fun trip. Although I just walk most Great Walks, this would of been a really easy introduction to trail running.

Such a good Great Walk catered to fit people who want to try something new. Just make sure you have really good shoes because the final decent on the first day is really steep and it can be very slippery if wet.

lots of uphill on the way to the viewpoint. but totally worth it.

boring track with a little view reward in the 'end' on top of port hills which can be easily with a simple drive from city. good for chch people to stretch, do a light trail run though.

to see beautiful clear water after a short walk.

Gorgeous trail. Very easy and scenic. Enjoyed it.
