We went up purple peak but didn't want to go down the same way so we followed the Tara track and went down Stoney Bay Road A lovely walk but I would avoid it in very windy days.

It goes well but pause in the middle Beautiful view of the entire hike Warning, a good part is muddy in winter which makes the descent very dangerous cat very steep. Remember to cover yourself (windy)

This walk is quite busy and used by dog walkers and baby in trolleys. It’s well maintained and nice combination with open spaces overlooking the old quarry and lush bush that provide some shade. Nice short but sweet walk with the dog!

gorgeous easy track, autumn colours are out in full bloom ♡

An easy hike for all abilities on a wide gravel track. Beautiful views over the lake with ice bergs and the Tasman Glacier. Plenty of little details to see along the way, such as lichens, mosses, and tiny plants between the rocks.

Starting from the campground it’s pretty much a vertical climb up a very well maintained staircase through lush vegetation and into alpine tundra. A challenging climb, but worth it for the phenomenal views of Mt Cook, Hooker Lake, glaciers, and the valley. Beautiful reflections on the tarns on a still day!

The way up was roped off, but I went anyway and quickly found slippery packed snow and ice on the climb up. The Loop at the top and the walk down along the lake have some incredible views. It's a pretty quick hike with lots to take in, just be careful on the ice and the muddy, slippery spots.

It was so nice, good track, we could not do the whole track because It was so much snow there, but It was so good anyway.

From carpark to where stairs begin is super icy, and from there (90% stairs) it’s also super icy. We had to stop about 10min from top because it was just all ice. Bring pickaxes. Otherwise, INCREDIBLE views of Mount Cook (covered in glorious snow) and surrounding ranges and valley. Highly recommend.

Awesome view after snow. Can consider to take skiing gears up

Nice easy walk with beautiful views and you always encounter friendly chch locals and their dogs. Best at sunrise or sunset as it’s very pretty but is also really nice on a hot day in the afternoon. Coffee carts sometimes come to the car park in weekends.

This is an amazing well-maintained loop track with beautiful views and a gorgeous waterfall. Many different landscapes all in one walk. We loved the classic NZ forest, some spooky forest sections, awesome looking caves, views that resembled Yosemite, and of course the tranquil waterfall and streams. Go for a dip if you’re feeling brave! Well worth the $10 private land/maintenance cost to enjoy this walk.

This is a great ‘workout’ style walk with great views especially once you reach the top! Gravel road and can be very hot on a sunny day as not much shade but a decent short walk close to the city.

I love this walk and do it regularly! Some steep parts on the way up but worth it for the gorgeous views from the open top and once at the waterfall. In summer (or winter if you’re brave) it is so refreshing to stand underneath it and get showered by the icy cold water. In winter this area is often covered in snow which makes for amazing views but be careful as sometimes the wooden stairs near the top can become very slippery with ice.

Very slippery following snow.

Permanent construction zone, the trail head is closed off and not accessible to the public.

Great views over city and harbour

Definitely a good track. Great view at top. Gets a bad rap because Sealy Tarns has the better view of Mt Cook.

The best trail I did in nz. Icy snow on the track, Bring crampons or sticks.

Well, it ain’t easy, but it’s soooo worth it. The hike isn’t technical by any stretch of the imagination — you’re just walking up a 4x4 track. BUT, it’s long and a pretty considerable elevation gain, so it’s a workout getting to the top. Definitely worth it on a clear day! Beautiful views of the kaikoura mountain range and kaikoura itself — also great views of the ocean !! Bring lots of layers because it’s quite chilly on top, but you definitely break a sweat on the way up. There’s water at the hut (which is about 2/3 of the way up) which says needs boiling but it was fine when I drank it. The hut itself is pretty decent compared to some NZ huts. Generally a nice hike if you wanna see kaikoura but don’t wanna see people!!

Spectacular hike in the Tasman Glacier Valley. Pretty straight forward to follow and a nice quaint 3 person hut to stay in.

awesome place

Great tough hike. There is a good worn trail to the waterfall then after that it gets a bit more rugged. Still a trail to the top, but I would recommend good hiking shoes. Was a fun hike with GREAT views!

absolutely love it some hard parts and fallen trees on track but totally loved it
