If you want to follow the track until the hut it’s actually around 9km one way, but totally worth it with amazing views on the glacier.
After an easy walk on a 4WD track, be prepared to a few tricky sections with sometimes unstable rocks... Definitely recommend this one if you want to experience Mt Cook area off the beaten tracks.

The trail is just a 4wheel drive track going up the mountain. So not the most interesting trail to walk on. But the views are amazing, especially when there's still snow on the back mountain range. Definitely worth it on a clear day.

Nice track with good coastal views. Easy enough to do in two days but three days allows you to stay at Flea Bay which is lovely, despite the name.

on Sealy Tarns Track

awesome view. many steps that are quite steep but well worth it!
be careful on windy days

Lots of spikes along the way, too narrow and bushes have over grown. Sweet view but just dangerous on the way in and out, slipped a lot. View is nice from the cave but the walk to and from I think is not worth it.

That was an amazing view!!

Great hike. Agree that you need to go early. We went at sunrise and by 7am on the way back there were quite a few folks coming. We got to see about 5 Kea birds hanging about but the end of the trail near Hooker Lake. Fun!

We loved cave stream , it was really cool for something different to do then just a normal walking trail . Such a cool experience . A head torch is great to keep your hands free and in the summer time the water isn’t to cold or deep !

Great family walk

Amazing track with amazing view at the top

Must do when you are visiting this area but make sure there are not too many clouds otherwise you won’t event see Mont Cook ;)

Wonderful views. Bit of a slog uphill in the heat of the day.

worth the climb up the stairs. beautiful.

yes, it is crowded but what would you expect from an easy walkaway under the highest mountain of NZ, right?
It is very nice though!

Its steep at the start, but not really difficult.

Great views. Lots of steps to climb.

Great view of Tasman Glacier and Terminal Lake. Crowded trail with lots of steps. Worth it though!!

Started the hike around 8am and there was hardly anyone on the trail! It was beautiful and very windy at times. Easy trail, 3 suspension bridges, great views. Hiked about 6.5 miles in about 2.5 hours. Trail was definitely crowded on our way out. Go early! And enjoy the views!!

very nice easy walk

very nice with views

Found it a bit difficult for someone who just started tracking. Overall great experience. Would definitely try again.

Amazing views. Would recommend doing the loop clockwise for the views and an easy descent as the return. Definitely broke a sweat on the way up. The cafe has delicious and affordable food options, it’s a good pit stop for food/water/toliets.

Agree with other reviews that it is overall easy and flat. The moderate rating probably comes from the distance and the unrelenting sun in the summer. The views are nice, but like another said, it mostly looks the same. It is VERY crowded, so beware of bus tourists clogging up the trail.

Amazing views all along the way! There was snow on the top of the mountains even in the summer with very hot and sunny weather. One of the best hikes I have ever done!

Great views on a classic NZ nature walk. Muddy rainforest track in places, save this walk for dry weather. Remember your antihistamine!

really nice ~1 h walk through the cave. The deepest point was probably right before the exit (if you walk downstream) and the hardest part was the first third/half. a strong headlight, good shoes and - if you tend to freeze - a warm top layer will help a lot.
have fun!

THE GOOD:
Wow! The views along the trail are incredible from start to finish. You wind through azure alpine streams and glacier lakes while walking through Hooker Valley. The towering snow capped mountains are nothing short of magnificent. Walk a little past the trail end to get an up close view of the floating icecaps. Would disagree with the moderate rating - tail is about as easy as they come. Hardly any elevation change, wide, and well marked. Great for all ages and experience levels.

THE BAD:
This place is crawling with oblivious tour bus tourists whose only concern is taking an Instagram selfie and not enjoying the views around them.
