About an hour straight of stairs but a great workout and amazing views throughout, then the start of the Mueller Hut scramble begins.

clear trail, a little bit of stairs, and a beautiful waterfall at the end. great little hike

Nous l’avons fait ce matin sous la pluie et c’était tout de même vraiment spectaculaire! Très facile

Awesome hike, a must do if in the area. I agree with what some others have posted, definitely bring plenty of water, and sunscreen and be prepared for stairs and steep rocky sections, and of course amazing views.

One of my favourite walks. I don't try and park up Rapaki Road. It's easier to park on Aynsley Terrace or Centaurus road and walk up. If you want to go further at the top the road going left is closed to vehicles but open to walkers and cyclists. Going right takes you down the Bowenvale track and you can loop back to the base of Rapaki. Can be very busy in peak time but track is wide all the way up so plenty of room.

Well maintained and well marked. Pretty easy but will take you about 3hrs rt. Bring sunscreen as most of the trail is exposed. Can get crowded when the tourists busses arrive but will thin out once you get to the first suspension bridge as the bus day trippers only go that far.

Beautiful waterfall with lots of water flowing even in summer. Walk has some steep bits but nothing to hard and well worth climbing up to this waterfall. Lots of parking and toilets at trail head. For photography best to hit this spot in the afternoon as that is when the sun is shining on it otherwise just shining in your face in the mornings

Such a great hike! We were a bit disappointed about the huge amount of people on the top, that drove up there...
But other than that awesome. Spectacular views not only on the top, also walking down and alongside the lake.

Great track good climb loved it.

A great trail! That begin with a lot of stairs. Be aware. Then a point of view on your right. And then a lovely up to have the beautiful view of the amount Cook. And the finish at the hut.
Definitely worth it and quite hard. 2,5 hours up. 1,5h down

Beautiful view when the weather is good, already made it twice

Great hike and highly recommended! Easy and the payoff is high! Can get crowded.

Beautiful, scenic, lovely undulating stroll following the gorge round with views over the gorge, river and hutt mountain range, not at all taxing just enjoyable

great walk. some interesting sights. coal mines. amazing views.

Wonderful views and easy track!

I had such high hopes about hiking in the forest down this trail. However from the difficulty of finding the sign walking up so many uneven steps – we were really disappointed. I love the forest does this sound, the smells, the sites. However this trail was rocky, rough and a challenge on the knees.

Very easy dirt path! We went as a family and it was LONG but easy. My mother has MS and we felt she could do this since it wasn’t a rough terrain. She kicked ass but there is ZERO shade on this trail. She had to take a lot of breaks, but anyone who knows about MS knows that’s inevitable. We did not make it to the end bc she was worried she wouldn’t make it back. We had a little chair for her to sit on for breaks but I think we could have easily transported a wheel chair with us. Someone would have to chart it on steps but I felt the rest of the path was generally possible for a wheelchair. Still amazing spots to stop at even though we didn’t make it to the very end. We turned around at the last bridge. If it wasn’t piercing sun, I thought she would have been able to finish it completely! Very fun and very family friendly.

Great trail with lovely views. The last 1/3 of the loop is unmarked - there's a fairly obvious trail for the most part but we did have to wade our way through the brush and weave back and forth over a barbed wire fence. I'd recommend doing it as an out and back to avoid this. Once you get to the spot where you are looking towards Arthur's Pass and can see a lake there is really nothing else great to see by continuing the loop.

Great hike. It was our first in New Zealand. Flat and moderately easy. Climate changes a bit while we were up there so bring some layers. LOTs of different scenery and the bridges are fun.
