A great trail! That begin with a lot of stairs. Be aware. Then a point of view on your right. And then a lovely up to have the beautiful view of the amount Cook. And the finish at the hut.
Definitely worth it and quite hard. 2,5 hours up. 1,5h down

Beautiful view when the weather is good, already made it twice

Great hike and highly recommended! Easy and the payoff is high! Can get crowded.

I had such high hopes about hiking in the forest down this trail. However from the difficulty of finding the sign walking up so many uneven steps – we were really disappointed. I love the forest does this sound, the smells, the sites. However this trail was rocky, rough and a challenge on the knees.

Very easy dirt path! We went as a family and it was LONG but easy. My mother has MS and we felt she could do this since it wasn’t a rough terrain. She kicked ass but there is ZERO shade on this trail. She had to take a lot of breaks, but anyone who knows about MS knows that’s inevitable. We did not make it to the end bc she was worried she wouldn’t make it back. We had a little chair for her to sit on for breaks but I think we could have easily transported a wheel chair with us. Someone would have to chart it on steps but I felt the rest of the path was generally possible for a wheelchair. Still amazing spots to stop at even though we didn’t make it to the very end. We turned around at the last bridge. If it wasn’t piercing sun, I thought she would have been able to finish it completely! Very fun and very family friendly.

Great hike. It was our first in New Zealand. Flat and moderately easy. Climate changes a bit while we were up there so bring some layers. LOTs of different scenery and the bridges are fun.

A moderate. Excellent exercise. Steady pace took us three hours RT. Promised view at end was not spectacular - wish we’d turned around at second bridge but we made it! This area and park are amazing. Trail is in excellent condition.

The view is amazing, a lot of stairs up and down, the stairs are in good condition. But a bit boring to walk up and down!

Fun Fact: this is the first mountain that Sir Edmund Hillary ever climbed. It is also one of the best hikes I’ve ever done, and absolutely the best in NZ.

The hike starts with stairs, stairs and more stairs. Once you’ve conquered the stairs, the scramble starts. Be careful because some parts were covered in snow (even in Jan), and the rocks can be slippery. However, the trail is well marked and once you reach the top, you’re 5 minutes from the hut and some great views of Mount Cook and the Valley below. Enjoy!

amazing area and amazing walk

Amazing climb, take enough water especially on sunny days as you need to struggle with stairs and then steep rocky/snowy parts ! Views all way long are breathtaking...

If you want to follow the track until the hut it’s actually around 9km one way, but totally worth it with amazing views on the glacier.
After an easy walk on a 4WD track, be prepared to a few tricky sections with sometimes unstable rocks... Definitely recommend this one if you want to experience Mt Cook area off the beaten tracks.

awesome view. many steps that are quite steep but well worth it!
be careful on windy days

That was an amazing view!!

Great hike. Agree that you need to go early. We went at sunrise and by 7am on the way back there were quite a few folks coming. We got to see about 5 Kea birds hanging about but the end of the trail near Hooker Lake. Fun!

montee en 2h30. il faut continuer après la hutte en haut d'un haut rocher pour avoir une magnifique vue a 360
et la cela mérite 5 étoiles.
pas très dur physiquement mais très technique sur la fin

Must do when you are visiting this area but make sure there are not too many clouds otherwise you won’t event see Mont Cook ;)

yes, it is crowded but what would you expect from an easy walkaway under the highest mountain of NZ, right?
It is very nice though!
