Doing the Kea trail in Summer/Spring is nothing compared to the beauty of doing it in winter. Perhaps more important to me is what it represents. At the end of the track is the stunning view of Mt Cook, New Zealand's tallest mountain. To the left is Mt Sefton, the protector of beautiful Mt Cook. The Māori name of Mt Sefton is Maukatua, which translates as 'mountain of the gods'. The beautiful Mueller Glacier is at the foothills. The walk there was so immensely gorgeous, like being in an actual winter wonderland.

Good rocky hike, with awesome views. Good exercise getting up and down the steep hill. Wear sturdy shoes, good trainers ok. I wouldn’t suggest doing this any later than June as track may get more covered in snow.

Have very low expectations for this. You can barely see the glacier but it is fascinating to see where it once was! Pretty easy, short trail with stairs. If you want a closer look at a glacier, go to Franz Joseph!

Suuuuper disappointing. Easy walk. You can hardly see the glacier and the lakes are not impressive. However, its incredible to see where the glacier used to be. If you want to see a more impressive glacier, go to Franz Joseph!

I understand why its so popular, its incredibly easy and the views of the mountains from the valley below is nice, but I expected so much more due to the hype. I was a little disappointed with Mt Cook but that changed once I did Sealy track!!! Constant stairs up but SO worth it. Insane views!

Nice easy trail with lots of stairs, not overly much to look at along the way

Absolutely. Amazing. Makes you realize why you came to mt cook after being slightly disappointed w the Hooker walk. This trail was up there w Ben Lomond, Roy’s Pk and Roberts Trail for me. Stairs all the way up but you can stop at any point and turn behind you for the most beautiful view. Go on a sunny clear day and it’s outstanding!! Perfect views of cook and you get so close to the snow of the surrounding moutains. It’s also amazing on a cold day because you get the sun most of the way up!!!

An amazing trail, we did it on a clear day after a couple days of rain in the beginning of winter (13 June), and though much of the trail had water running down it, there are ways to get around the water. Some parts were definitely more like climbing than hiking. Stellar views all the way up, make sure you get to the lookout (1300m), anything after that is just a bonus. We stopped there since we didnt have crampons/ice pick and were not comfortable attempting in regular shoes, though it really depends on your comfort because some people we saw went all the way up in gym shorts and shoes.

Easy trail with beautiful views

A must-do. I have done this hike multiple times and it never disappoints! There are 360 views of Mt. Cook and surrounding glaciers. I highly recommend staying overnight at Mueller Hut. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. It's a tough hike up the stairs but totally worth it!

a lot of steps but totally doable! beautiful view - will continue up to mueller hut after winter!

I did this after rolling my ankle the day before, and found it easy enough despite all the stairs. great track and the waterfall is stunning! one of the highlights of my west coast trip

Awesome walk definitely worth it with the end view, easy enough for kids.

Easy trail to follow. There are a few suspension bridges along the way. It’s mostly flat with some steps here and there. We did this track in early June. The conditions were good, not too cold and quite clear when we were there, although the drive there was very fogged in. Definitely recommend this hike.

A must do for either a day hike or an overnight journey. I did a day hike but I would have loved to stay up at the hut as well. Go check it out.

really enjoyable but agree more of a stroll than a hike! loved it anyway! make sure to climb down to the bottom of the river it's just stunning!

Trail was extremely steep with lots of rocks. Had to pull yourself up using tree roots at times. The sign-post warns that this is an advanced route. All-trails lists this as moderate - definitely not "moderate".

the trail was easy to follow. but it's a long one. kind of never ending trail hahaha. but the view at the end was amazing. love it here. i wanna go again
