good for beginners nice and flat scenery really kicks in about mid-way through the ride.

Very steep track compared to other ways up Mt Thomas but worth the push to the top

Be careful of the gps directions here. I got there via Amberley and I’m unsure if the other way works. You can also walk up to the look out and the peak from the Lake Janet picnic area, which is a nice easy hike up and down in around 2 hours.

Steep walk at first but amazing views at the top. I walked along the ridge and down the wooded gully track and that was beautiful but a bit wet in places.

I did this walk on the Waitangi Day. When I reached to the summit, it was windy and we had to go to the hut, which is approx 500m from the summit to rest and have lunch. The wind was strong and cold. Always recommend to take a jacket. Ha! The views are beautiful and you will find cattle on the way. In summary beautiful walk and took me 6 hours in total (walking from the town). (:

A lovely stroll out, 9km, 4x4 track, steady incline with a total ascent of about 430m up to mount Ada with panoramic views across the bays and all the way over to the southern alps on a clear day

Good track for dogs with scattered shade. Water and a bin for shit in the dog play area.

Great day hike. Be cautious to stay on the trail when starting out. It isn’t hard to wander off onto farm roads if you aren’t paying attention.

Beautiful hike with not crazy elevations.

Top of bridle path up to to of gondola

good one to get the heart rate up. recommend.

A great walk if you like sheep. Fairly tame, if steep, with fantastic views all the way along.
Accessible from Christchurch by car, ferry or shuttle bus.

Track very obvious and well-maintained. Passes pretty much entirely through farmland, so if you’re looking for wilderness this will leave you unsatisfied. The view from Mt Herbert is worth the trip though.

There are a couple of rather nice huts along the track which have to be pre-booked, and some route variation is possible if you’re looking for a slightly longer hike.

I definitely enjoyed this as a one-off and as my first hike in NZ, but probably not one I’d do again - I was a little bored with farmland by the end.

This trail is fairly easy. The hardest part is coming back up on the other side of Taylor’s mistake. However there is plenty of shade and places to rest if you need it. Cool to see what’s left of some of the WWII buildings and read a little history. Every part of this trail gives you a scenic view of the water.

Nice work with good views. Reasonably flat

Found it a bit difficult for someone who just started tracking. Overall great experience. Would definitely try again.

Absolutely beautiful scenery . Great walk for beginners.

great ride thoroughly enjoyable

Miles of wildflowers. We walked a total of 12 miles, 6 out and back, but the trail is much longer. Mostly a moderate trail, with a couple spots of old growth areas that had rocky boulders that make you use your arms to climb up and down. Great Lake views. Very nice coffee house at the base “sign of the kiwi” with great burgers. We did not try the ice cream next door.

It was such a great walk. Loved it.

Easy walk with breathtaking views and history every now and then

Did this in reverse. I can see we took the harder way, quite a steep climb up the back end of the mountain. Fantastic views at the top. Take care with the weather as its known to be windy/cold up there.

Fucking shit

Easy flat ride

Great Walk awesome views pity we didn't have time to do the full loop

be prepared for sudden changes in weather. even if it's hit and sunny when you start out be prepared for hail and snow at the top. we did it a few weeks back and there was a sudden change of weather about 20 minutes to the summit. the exposure to wind and snow is awful. I was sure I wouldn't make it...! obviously I did. 2.5 hrs down the mountain cold and wet is not fun. be prepared!
