awesome view. many steps that are quite steep but well worth it!
be careful on windy days

That was an amazing view!!

Great hike. Agree that you need to go early. We went at sunrise and by 7am on the way back there were quite a few folks coming. We got to see about 5 Kea birds hanging about but the end of the trail near Hooker Lake. Fun!

montee en 2h30. il faut continuer après la hutte en haut d'un haut rocher pour avoir une magnifique vue a 360
et la cela mérite 5 étoiles.
pas très dur physiquement mais très technique sur la fin

Must do when you are visiting this area but make sure there are not too many clouds otherwise you won’t event see Mont Cook ;)

yes, it is crowded but what would you expect from an easy walkaway under the highest mountain of NZ, right?
It is very nice though!

Great views. Lots of steps to climb.

Started the hike around 8am and there was hardly anyone on the trail! It was beautiful and very windy at times. Easy trail, 3 suspension bridges, great views. Hiked about 6.5 miles in about 2.5 hours. Trail was definitely crowded on our way out. Go early! And enjoy the views!!

A very well maintained track with spectacular views from the beginning till it ends at the tarns.

This trail will kick your butt if you are unfit. The last 200 meter to the crest of the ridge is the most difficult section due to the scree and ice. The area around the hut is still covered in ice. We took only 3 liters of water for the two of us which wasnt adequate under the hot intense sun. Some people were hiking shirtless!!!! The views? Out of this world!!!!!

Oh, the hut doesn’t belong to Mueller.

Spectacular views of the Mueller glacier, the hut was still covered in snow on 22 December
Great trail with steps to Sealy Tarns making for a steady but very steep climb
We saw three avalanches happen on the opposite side of the valley. We took 2.5 hours up and 1.5 hours down and we’re about abode average hikers

Agree with other reviews that it is overall easy and flat. The moderate rating probably comes from the distance and the unrelenting sun in the summer. The views are nice, but like another said, it mostly looks the same. It is VERY crowded, so beware of bus tourists clogging up the trail.

Amazing views all along the way! There was snow on the top of the mountains even in the summer with very hot and sunny weather. One of the best hikes I have ever done!

Wow! The views along the trail are incredible from start to finish. You wind through azure alpine streams and glacier lakes while walking through Hooker Valley. The towering snow capped mountains are nothing short of magnificent. Walk a little past the trail end to get an up close view of the floating icecaps. Would disagree with the moderate rating - tail is about as easy as they come. Hardly any elevation change, wide, and well marked. Great for all ages and experience levels.

This place is crawling with oblivious tour bus tourists whose only concern is taking an Instagram selfie and not enjoying the views around them.

Super worth the climb! Hiked in Dec 2018 and there was still snow toward the top. We used an ice axe and hiking poles but crampons would have been a nice luxury - you can rent them in Mt Cook Village. Do-able as a day hike but definitely stay in the hut if you can - sunrise and sunset are so beautiful

Tough trek, but worth the struggle. The landscape is outstanding. Be mindful of the weather, mountain conditions change all the time. Wouldn't reccomend attempting if you're inexperienced.

Lots of steps

The stairs were brutal but the view was worth it. Did it back in February!

Pouring rain but clear morning was worth it. Stairs stairs stairs!
Feb 2018

Way to busy. It snowed in the night before we did the walk and even then it feld like a trafficjam. Seenery is great.

good day hike for fam & kids

Amazing scenery especially on a clear day. Easy track as most of the ground is flat.

Stunning scenery.

Lucky with brilliant clear views on the way up. Knee high snow for about the last hour made for a lung-buster, but gorgeous, nonetheless. Probably took me 3hrs to the top with plenty of picture snapping. Made some coffee at the hut, then back down in about 2hrs. Low visibility on the way down, but plenty of my own tracks to follow, and fun snow tromping. Even if you only get to the top of the stairs section and don't go all the way to the hut--go for it. I think anyone could accomplish the stair part, if they take their time and just enjoy it.

Do you love stairs? Great views. Lots of stairs. Picnic table at the lookout. Last 200 steps were snow covered so a good walking stick will serve you well in June.
