Day 2 of Annapurna 5-day trek to Poon Hill. This section's destination is Ghorepani. 10.4km, about 6hrs of which effectively 3,5hrs walking. Probably the 2nd day is the toughest, because you have to climb from 1485m to 2879; over 1400m. Most climbing happens at the start on steep stairs. Uleri is at 2020m altitude, and this is just 550m the first 1.9km. After Uleri the terrain evens out, a bit, while you're still slowly climbing. Towards Ghorepani you find yourself entering the Rhododendron forests.Show more

Day 3 of Annapurna 5-day trek to Poon Hill. This section's destination is first Poon Hill, early morning Sunrise, and after breakfast to Tadapani, 10.7km, about a 6 hour day hike. The climb to Poonhill is a few hundred meters up, in the dark (at 5-5:30am); so bring a flashlight. Then you arrive in time to see the sunrise light up the main Annapurna & Dhaulagiri mountain range. That is, if you're lucky to have a clear day. After breakfast back in Ghorepani, the rest of the day begins with a gradual climb over a ridge -back to Poon hill height- after which you descend sometimes with steep stairs. The final stretch to Tadapani is down a valley and up another 130m climb in less then 1km. Tadapani offers a great view on Annapurna South and Fishtail mountain; you get a second chance next morning if you've missed the view at Poon Hill.Show more

This is one segment of a multi-day trek through Poon Hill (highest point at 3210m). The main attractions of the trek is the view at Poon Hill on the nearby mountains (Annapurna, Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna South, and Fishtail Mountain) and the ancient Rhododendron forests thickly covered in moss. The Rhododendron trees can be seen blooming in spring around March.Show more

Day 4 of Annapurna 5-day trek to Poon Hill. This portion's destination is Ghandruk; a relatively short day, about 3 hours mostly downhill. You can consider continuing to Kimche. However Ghandruk has many good guest houses (while Kimche has almost none) and some sightseeing; there is a small local museum, a monastery and a temple. Take a rest in Ghandruk to sit outside in the sun and enjoy the warmer temperature at the lower altitude. From Tadopani you descend through the last mossy Rhododendron forest, through deep gorges, along a clear creek. Closer to Ghandruk the scenery starts changing to a dryer, more open forest. Ghandruk is also used as a stop-over for hikers who are on the way or returning from the ABC -Annapurna Base Camp- trek.Show more
