Day 4 of Annapurna 5-day trek to Poon Hill. This portion's destination is Ghandruk; a relatively short day, about 3 hours mostly downhill. You can consider continuing to Kimche. However Ghandruk has many good guest houses (while Kimche has almost none) and some sightseeing; there is a small local museum, a monastery and a temple. Take a rest in Ghandruk to sit outside in the sun and enjoy the warmer temperature at the lower altitude. From Tadopani you descend through the last mossy Rhododendron forest, through deep gorges, along a clear creek. Closer to Ghandruk the scenery starts changing to a dryer, more open forest. Ghandruk is also used as a stop-over for hikers who are on the way or returning from the ABC -Annapurna Base Camp- trek.Show more

Annapurna 5-day trek to Poon Hill. Day 5: 13.2km, 1000m down. The final day from Ghandruk to Nayapul is 13.2km, starting with a descent of 900m in the first 7.7km, over stairs and nice trail. After this the hike continues on a rather uneventful dirt-road (wide enough for cars) parallel with the river. Stop over for lunch in Birethani, and relax a bit, for the final 2km back to the main road at Nayapul. In total the day will be about 6 hours, including stops. Alternatively you can go East, down & up across the river to Landruk, and take a more difficult trail South-West to Birethani. This trail has more ups & downs when it follows the more deeply carved East mountain side.Show more
