The hiking was very interesting and there are lots of beautiful flowers and plants on the way up. Also when you get to the road you can drink a very tasty and cold spring water, that was a bonus. In the beginning of the hiking the way is not mark accurate so I couldn’t find it first time! It was pure luck that I found way to go second time!

Following route is a route from Derneciste to Maglic, highest peak in Bosnia, down to Trnovacko lake and back to Prijevor.Hazim's record is exact,Prijevor-Trnovacko lake.

Loved this. Beautiful views. Walk takes about an hour, it's not hard, but have proper shoes because the surface isn't the best. There is also another way down not on this map, less maintained stone path, more "natural", through some bushes. Little bit less comfortable but doable if you don't like going the same way back. PRO TIP: you still can get to the fortress for free, but it's before 7AM and after 7PM. Otherwise 8€ entrance fee.

The views from the top are breathtaking, but the path isn't the best. I've done the whole loop and it felt like no one did so in ages. There were parts of the path that were pretty much invisible, either full of prickly bushes or covered in small loose rocks, both of them very uncomfortable to walk through. Especially the second half. Up to the top, first zig-zaggy part is very nice well-maintained part, quite easy and pleasant because it is not steep. Then it goes through forest, which is nice too, but shortly before the top, the sign just tells you that you're about 40 mins to the top and the marks completely disappear. It is really hard to navigate to the very top, big rocks covered in bushes and moss are sometimes a little dangerous to step on. The marking is quite poor all the way, which is ok while the path is clearly visible on the ground, but the majority of the way it is not. I suggest you to go to the top and return the same way because the second half is not that much worth it for how much pain it is, and be sure you have a map and working GPS, just to be sure.

Amazing trail, I loved it even though it was humid and 28 degrees. I would love to do this again if and when I go back to Kotor. It’s a tough walk but definetly not impossible, I was carrying a heavy bag all the way up so I bet it’s easier without one.

The circular route presented here will not take you to the highest summit of Durmitor but you will get the best views guaranteed! Across Prutaš, Škrka, Samar and Štit, the visitor passes three glacier valleys, stops to recharge at the magnificent Škrčko jezero, and goes three times up and down the 2000m altitude. It is a challenging route with 1200m total ascent in 16km, but your effort will be rewarded at each step along the way; astonishing sights change fast in time, there are no dull sections, and only a few people are met along the trail, if any at all.

Decent hike however you can’t access the fortress, they have the back entrance guarded. We tried the main entrance after reading its free of you get there before 8am- no longer the case. There was a guard there at 7:15! The view isn’t the same, pay the 8€ if you want the full experience.

The highest peak in Montenegro. Hiked this in late September starting from Sedlo Pass. Steep ascent as first leads to a relatively flat area with some unique rock formations and a spring. The ending ascent to the peak is difficult and has ropes for scaling the rocks. A lot of loose small rocks throughout, and a family of dogs followed us up and then back down. Incredible views of Durmitor at the top. I had to pay an entrance fee to the national park of 3 euros at the trailhead. Ask for a receipt because they'll want to see it upon your return to the trailhead. It's possible to hike all the way back to Zabljak using an alternate descent that takes you past the Black Lake.

This is an incredible hike with amazing views at the top. Note: it is extremely hot in the summer. Leave early (4-5-6am) and try and be back down or at least not hiking and in the shade between 10am and 3-4pm...

Free alternative to Kotor Fortress hike. Involves a series of switchbacks on a well marked path. Some loose rocks so decent shoes are a good idea.

on Kotor Fortress

We did this hike early morning to avoid the heat. Kotor was one of our stops as part of our boat cruise. Took us no more than 40 minutes to reach the fortress. The trail is mostly steep, rough stone stairs. It’s best to wear athletic shoes. Beautiful view of town and the surrounding area when you reach the top. Definitely worth doing if you are in Kotor

Incredible scenery helps a long and sometimes difficult hike. We found the ice cave even though the All Trails map was not clear about where it is and indeed many people seem to miss it. Finished it in six hours but we rushed the last leg in order to avoid some approaching inclement weather. Bring plenty water and snacks and take regular breaks.

Wear high friction shoes! The people wearing sandals were unhappy ☹️

Beautiful views on the bay beneath. Nice for photography lovers. Also, you have to pay entrance fee only during "summer season", which means it's free for the rest of the year. When you climb to the top you see the ruins of an old village. If you need to refresh yourself - there's a house turned into a small bar near that village.

Fun little walk-hike...20-40 min depending on your fitness, trail traffic, and temps. It was 94F/34C today, but we got out early enough that there was still a few shady spots to catch a breeze. It’s 8€, and the attendant let my 13 yr old daughter hike for free. Views from the fort/ruins are superb, worth the effort. There is a free trail further north that goes higher, has more sun/steeps, which you can see from the paid part. The steps are in good condition, thanks to the fees. Expect lots of tourists.

Great views the whole way! Very hot with no shade the day we went. We were glad to bring plenty of water, hats and sunscreen. Definitely something to avoid in the heat of the day if the temps are warm.

The trail is really a steep stair climb (often with flat stones to the side of it.) Reminded me of climbing the stairs to get to Great Wall of China north of Beijing). There is another trail I recommend more you access on the north side of the city, which locals use to get up there. More switchbacks, more gradual climb. Old ruins of the fortress along the way. We entered at the north and central gates (keep your receipt - 8 Euros per person). No cost to the north trail.
