Beautiful trail. Not too hard of a hike. Lots of switchbacks. Normally coming down hurts my knees pretty bad, but this trail wasn’t too hard on them!

Very nice trail with great views along the way. Deer spotted. Parking can be an issue, found a pull off about a 1/4 mi south of the trail head.

It’s a moderately difficult hike for us older folks, but once you get past the switchbacks the views are easy to get to and amazing.

Amazing trail, but the parking lot fills up fast. Plan to get their shortly after sunrise if you want a spot!! The trail can get pretty crowded too.

After the first half, this trail is basically a staircase up to the top. The view from the top is fantastic! You can see all around. To be honest it was a little difficult to tell where the trail ended. It was a little cold and windy at the top, but that’s to be expected in January.

Really fun hike. You get a lot of “bang for your buck” with this hike because it is not as remote or long as other hikes in the area, but you get to see great views and lots of flora and and some fauna (if you’re lucky!)

Don’t miss this one if you come to Big Bend!

Love this trail! This is the second time doing it and it was just as amazing as the first time!

We hiked this trail Dec 10, 2018.
Easy in the beginning, gets harder towards the end. Step, very uneven surface rocks. The top, it’s almost a plateau, you can safely walk on top of the trail and view different angles of the mountains. Definitely worth another visit later on!

Great views for not a lot of effort. It's all uphill but at a manageable gradient and distance. It's a popular hike so consider getting there early to find parking

The entire trail took about three hours with a few breaks. Parking is very limited around busy times so we ended up having to park about a mile away and walk to the trailhead which isn't a big deal. We saw a bear about half a mile into the trail snacking on something. He didn't seemed to be bothered by people at all. the view from the top is great and is a comparable height to emory peak without having to hike all day long.

Good trail with great views. Also saw a black bear from a distance, but it didn't get close.

Magnificent views, and a good chance to see a black bear.

A good decent workout with great views! Saw a black bear sow and cubs. Signs of Moutain lion. Clouds swirling around Casa Grande at sunset were sublime.

Today was my second time attempting this hike. Last year, I hiked it at the beginning of August and it was about 72 degrees. It was breezy, so it was bearable! Amazing views the entire way. The top was the best part. Today we encountered a lot of clouds/ mist, so we only went up to the mile mark. However, just before we got onto the trail, we came face to face with a bear just past the parking lot. Due to the excessive rain/ time of year, the bears are more active (an abundance of berries etc)! One of the best hikes in the park!

Good views of Pine Valley Canyon and waterfall

Fantastic hike if you are looking for an afternoon or morning hike in Big Bend. There is an excellent view just a mile up or so at a saddle if you are in a big hurry, but the view from the top is even better. The hike starts with a light to moderate incline through pinyon pine forest before climbing some steeper switchbacks towards the end. In early March, temperatures were in the mid 70s with low humidity. It can get breezy since you are in a mountain gap however, so be prepared.

Fantastic hike through the forested north side of casa grande. The guide said you only need to hike about a mile to get one of the best views in the park and I couldnt agree more. Ended up going all the way to the top and enjoyed the rest of the hike but the views didnt get much better since some rain showers and fog made visibility drop considerably. Took about 3 hours round trip. 2 hours up and 1 hour to come down. My GPS showed the distance as 5 miles total

Great hike. Not too difficult. Bears reported but we didn’t see any.

Completed this trail in August 2018. It was our 1st time in Big Bend and the 1st hike we completed in the park. We began at 5pm and it took a couple of hours to complete. Afternoon clouds helped with the August heat and made it bearable. The gorgeous views begin as soon as you start the trail and never stop. We received word of a Mountain Lion at the top, but we continued on and never saw it. A beautiful hike! Must do when in BBNP!

Overall about a 3-hour hike. Loved the views, sounds, and cactuses along the way. It’s a bit steep, more towards the end. The top view is totally worth it! Be sure to get there early to get a parking spot.
