Rocky, Starts across the road in an arroyo and to the east of “The Orchard.” A little hard to follow sometimes. Good views of the town at the top edges. Other trails going off in various directions for more hiking options. We hiked a spur to the east that created a ridge looking towards the sea. We returned by the way we started and hiked 4 miles total.

Wonderful trek along the river and becoming less populated the farther in. Sightings of domestic horses, cows and chickens with chicks and lots of noisy parrots and paraqueets in February. Rutted road and rocky in some places. We hiked in river sandals. The main bridge was taken out by a terrible flood late last year, a temporary footbridge is in it’s place.

I live in El Centenario near this area. I would not call this a trail so much as a desert road. Very stark and would be a very long, hot slog most of the year. The "river" mentioned is an arroyo. Like most arroyos here it is dry 99 percent of the time and treacherous during thunderstorms. Also filled with sand and very tiresome to walk in. Lot's of beauty to be found in this area but I can't recommend this as a hike. No facilities or water, very limited emergency response.

No apto para niños menores de 12. mucha piedra suelta. paisaje fregonsisimo

This was an incredibly picturesque trail. Anyone who starts from Las Animas instead of Boca is missing out. Yes, there is a cantina on the waterfall but buying a water of water gets you access. Although, pretty sure you could swim up the river and not pay to use the access point. Having bathrooms and changing rooms for wet clothes was well worth it. Out of respect for others, if you do this trail, please don't take donkey or horse. It isn't difficult elevation or terrain wise and the animal feces takes away from the experience.

excelente rura para entrenar y meditar!!

Find nacho he has horses but he will also go for a scenic hike 200 pesos per person. He is the most fun and will take you where there aren’t other tourists.

Muy recomendado ... seguro y la cascada del carrizo muy bonito

Beautiful walk , easy for any age as long as you can stay upright

Absolutely beautiful trail, you can walk around the entire lake. Little 19th century ruins around you. Great for a sunset hike when it’s not too hot. 10/10 recommend!!!

Great trail close by the Guadalajara metropolitan area, on the North of the city. Can be accessed by car and public transportation Just to correctly locate, there are two “Barrancas”. Oblatos which is an easy 5 km hike located on Avenida Periferico Norte. The Barranca de Huentitán, located in the Avenida Belisario Domínguez, is the one trail that will take you to the river. The trail traffic is crowded on the weekends. In the early mornings you see many trail runners, local habitants and tourists. We visited on January 4th, 2020 The trail to the river and historic Arcediano bridge is about 5.8km, 1.2h in a slow pace. So mind a 2 to 3h total hike. Take water, supplies and trash bag with you as you won’t find them down the trail. Also no restroom is available until you reach the lowest portion of the trail, where you see a chemical toilet, which does not seem to be maintained. It starts with a concrete stairway with a few small local businesses, where you can find food, refreshments, buy supplies for your hike. The stairway ends up in the chapel. You will see some people warming up and stretching. Now it the trail starts with switch backs of stoned path. Be prepared to use your legs and knees, it’s quite demanding irregular path. The scenery is nice, as you can see the canyon and the river at the bottom. Along the way down you find different landscapes, from stone path surrounded by trees with shadow to semi arid thin soil with cactus, to dense forest where it is signaled “Herradura path”, where you feel a cooler air. The trail is well signaled and you can go to different paths. On the way to the Arcediano bridge you will pass a bridge by a waterfall. Unfortunately the water is contaminated by city waste, so we were able to se chemical foam and a funky smell. The trail is most of the way clean, but you can find some trash left by visitors. We were able to see other trails and pathways, but since those were not signaled, we did not risk to explore The overall impression is great, as it is a wonderful preserved natural area with beautiful fauna and flora. Great place to practice hiking conditioning.

This is a wonderful trail, steep but easy to walk. On the way we found a spring of fresh and clean water, we could not resist the temptation to drink it and refresh ourselves with it. The waterfall and the views are amazing! This is a fantastic place to enjoy alone or with the family.

This has been one of the most fascinating trails I've walked. We started watching the sunrise in the community of Cuatro Palos, a very beautiful landscape of mountains and colors. Although the long path was always downhill and rocky in several sections, it was not difficult to walk and the views along the way are incredible. This time we only walked the trail to the community of Bucareli we did not return to Cuatro Palos, I think that on another occasion I will do it, but the downward journey was an exciting and very pleasant adventure.

This is the second time that I visit this beautiful place, walking by the trail aside the river, contemplating the wonderful landscape full of trees and plants make the trip an unforgettable moment.

I visited this beautiful place at the end of December with an excellent weather to walk and enjoy the beautiful landscape. The trail is well marked and very easy to walk, the waterfall is impressive! This is a beautiful place to visit with family or friends.

Beautiful waterfall. Rocks scrambling to get to the view. Recently burnt out all the trees and brush.

The coordinates put you in the middle of cow farms- NOT on a trail or anywhere near access to one.

Decent 2 hour walk. No views but a nice forest trail. Make sure to get dropped off at “Parque Natural El Encuentro” on the Periférico Oriente Sur (street) and it’s less than 1km walk via dirt road to the hike base.

Good hike!!

Went down the main trail, crossed the river at the pipe bridge walked along the far side of the river to the suspension bridge crossed back and ascended the black dashed trail where a large rockfall wooed out a good portion of the trail ~1 month ago. Good fun scramble for adventurous ones. Some locals do it daily and appreciate the adventure :)
