Hiking

Hi- the stats here are completely wrong. This is over 12 miles one way. Beautiful and great waterfall and swimming hole. But takes an entire day. So plan to water taxi back.

The trail is now open. Great views and access to Colomitos Beach, playa Caballo, and Animas beach. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the thrash on the side of the trails, if we all leave the trail better, than the way we found it, it will be a better place.

A little up and down and steep at parts, but a really pretty hike with great places to stop and spend some time along the way. Is a little easy to get off the trail.

There is a lot of garbage along what could be an amazing trail. For me the trash was too much to allow enjoyment of the natural beauty which is present.

this was my first solo hike in Mexico. I dug it. gorgeous scenery, plenty of swim options and a few margarita stops along the way. only cons were that unfortunately, there was a lot of animal (I hope) scat on the trail, which made parts of the hike really smelly. also, I was asked for a money by some guy who claimed to have been removing rocks from the trail ahead...

AMAZING. I personally didn’t find this a hard trail but others in the group considered this an easy-moderate hike. Had a few snacks and plenty of water with us which we were glad we took, but also a restaurant you can stop at for a drink and snack/food (another gourmet restaurant also but believe it’s reservation only and it’s minimum $50 USD) along the way. Hiked the trail from boca to las animas beach. Unreal views of the water throughout the whole hike and we really took in the surroundings and local environment. Took our time throughout and stopped in for a drink at the restaurant “Maraika” before arriving at the beautiful white sand beach right after (called Los Caballos Beach). Swam for 45 minutes in the clear blue water before walking over to las Animas and catching a boat ride back (approx $20-50 pesos/person). Around a 1-3 hour day depending if you took your time or hiked straight through to the beach. HIGHLY recommend if you’re in the area. Lots of tourists we ran into who do it every time they’re in PV. (Also, bring bug spray! Never got a bite but also sprayed thoroughly with good quality bug spray)

This is a fantastic hike, fairly rigorous with fantastic coastal vistas and beaches. We took a cab to Boca where our driver found the trailhead. We hiked about an hour to a beautiful little beach where there is a Restauraunt called Ocean Grille. (About an hour in). We made reservations the night before on dining app. Reservations for 11,12,and 1 only. Be sure to book. It was fantastic gourmet food and beautiful setting. Expensive but worth it. $80 for 2. After a swim we hiked to Los Animales. The path is up and down a little rugged but well maintained. Fantastic rocky / beach spots with some strong surf. Great picture taking vistas. Las Animales is about 1:20 from ocean grille. We took a water taxi back to Boca $100 pesos for 2. This is a beautiful hike that I wouldn’t miss.

This was an incredibly picturesque trail. Anyone who starts from Las Animas instead of Boca is missing out. Yes, there is a cantina on the waterfall but buying a water of water gets you access. Although, pretty sure you could swim up the river and not pay to use the access point. Having bathrooms and changing rooms for wet clothes was well worth it. Out of respect for others, if you do this trail, please don't take donkey or horse. It isn't difficult elevation or terrain wise and the animal feces takes away from the experience.

Sometimes we were not sure if we were on the trail. The ocean views made it worth it.

Find nacho he has horses but he will also go for a scenic hike 200 pesos per person. He is the most fun and will take you where there aren’t other tourists.

Hiking

Beautiful hike. A bit of a challenging up and down at the start, but well worth it for the coastline views. Took an hour and 40 minutes start to finish. So plenty of time to make stops along the way, and take all the ocean pictures you need. Easily found the footbridge instead of starting out by wading through a river in Boca. Nice to start the day with dry feet. First 750m does go through the town and past resident’s homes. But it’s clear you’re on a path, this is the road that anyone who lives in Boca takes to get home, didn’t feel like I was intruding at all. There are some signs to point toward the trail instead of private property at this section and later on near Les Animas when the trail passes through a few resorts. All beaches are federal land, so you’re not trespassing. The only hairy part of the trail is the descent into Colomitos. This section is sandy and steep, so gets slippery. At Playa Colomitos, the Ocean Grill has a sign up advertising $50USD minimum for purchase. By far the part of the trail is past Playa Colomitos. Amazing secluded beaches and beautiful shoreline views. Great swimming at Les Animas and the beach was not too busy. Took water taxi back to Boca, $50 pesos per person (2 people). Then took the bus back to downtown PV $10 pesos per person

Hiking

This was the last hike we did in Puerto Vallarta and we weren’t impressed. This was my least favourite hike around Puerto Vallarta. Although El Nogalito town was pretty, walking on paved road from the main road to the town took away from the hiking feeling and felt more like an afternoon walk. Then we finally arrived to the start of trail at the EcoPark. There isn’t an actual trail and the beauty of the scenery is distracted by the pipes that take water from up the mountain to the town. The pipes are everywhere.

This is pretty hard and with very little reward. Yes some of the beaches are nice but the jungle is hot humid and boring. Also goes through people's backyards. I would advise to take the boat to Las animas and then just walk along the beaches till the restaurants. Rest is not very good.

This was a pretty trail that goes through beaches, rocky terrain, boardwalks, and dirt trails. Worth it, but easy to go the wrong way in a couple of places. You’ll reroute pretty quickly, though. The open beach you come to about halfway is beautiful. There was a pack of dogs that barked at me, but didn’t really approach. I took the water taxi back to Boca. Just walk out onto the dock and just yell “Boca!” Someone will tell you what boat to hop on. They charged me $150 pesos. Enjoy!

Thoroughly enjoyed this trail! My husband and I decided to continue on the trail after a rest in Las Animas and were rewarded with the beautiful secluded beaches at Quimixto. We had a delicious fish dinner on the beach while watching the surfers. A water taxi back to Boca was 50 pesos each.

Great scramble up the creek! Wear water shoes, makes easier on the feet. It is possible to hike around the falls and go further if desired. Steep climb to the right of the falls through the jungle not much of a trail.. maybe an animal trail.
