William Petri reviewed Ripley Falls Trail

Good short hike (less than an hour round trip) to Ripley Falls. You can park at the end of a recently patched asphalt road going park way up the slope.

We did a variant that joined the Bryce Path. We started from the NW shore of Echo Lake on the yellow trail which has a sign indicating "To Bryce Path". Took us about one hour to the top and back, plus viewing time at the top. A bit disappointing to find all the cars parked at the top if you're not expecting it. Excellent views. Much of this hike is flat and wide with two relatively, short but steep rises. This route apparently misses the waterfall.

William Petri reviewed Arethusa Falls and Frankenstein Cliff Trail

Hiked up the Cliff Trail and returned via the Falls Trail. The Cliff Trail turns right shortly before the tracks and follows yellow blazes. It is easy to miss that turn and to keep going uphill to the railroad tracks, cross and continue up a little used, unmapped trail that continues up the hill. Hike is mostly in the forest with a few open ledges for views. I'd rate the hike moderate rather than difficult. About 4 hours for the loop including a 45 minute stop for lunch at the Falls. I recommend adding the Bemis Trail on the way back to view the Coliseum and Bemis Falls. I'd avoid the loop in wet weather, many roots and rocks to slip on.

William Petri reviewed Tom Dick and Harry Mountain Trail

Full counterclockwise loop. We parked at Ski Bowl due to full lot at Mirror Lake trailhead. Walked the highway mile to Mirror Lake Trailhead (noisy, not fun) but then hiked Tom, Dick and Harry and continued east on nature trail to top of Ski Bowl lifts and followed Cannonball and other ski trials down to parking lot and car. If you plan ahead you might be able to take the roller board slide part way down. Portion after highest summit (which I think is actually Harry) to Dick and Tom summits is much less used, less well discernible and rougher than first portion. Overall well worth it. I'd avoid Cannonball due to slippery loose scree.

We extended this loop to include the Owachomo Bridge. Known as The Loop this about 9 mile loop that takes one under all three bridges is spectacular. We started at Owachomo overlook parking area and hiked the loop counterclockwise. The hike across the upper section is quick and flat. The hike down into the canyon at Sipapu and along the valley floor is harder but not strenuous. The valley trail is marked "not maintained" but it is well marked and only suffers from overgrowth in many areas. About 5 hours in all.

Great Narrow canyon trail displaying unusual intense pocketing of cliff walls. Opportunities for slot canyon exploration. We hiked from the Giffords end to the intersection of the Frying Pan Trail and back About 2 hours and very worthwhile. Steep quarter mile of switchbacks at beginning give way to gentle hiking the rest of the way.

William Petri reviewed Cohab Canyon - Cassidy Arch Trail

The Alltrails description of this hike is from the Highway 24 trailhead but the map is from the Gifford House end. We hiked in from the Highway 24 end of the Cohad Trail switched to the Frying Pan Trail and then to the Cassidy Arch Trail to Casidy Arch. A truly great and strenuous hike (lots of up and down) but not difficult nor edgy. The way we did it it encompassed about 8.5 miles and about 5 hours. The Arch is impressive and the only one we've found in southeast Utah that is easily walked across on top given its massive width.

We hiked from the Route 24 trailhead. A very flat, easy 2.5 hour round trip through magnificent canyon narrows with a very convenient park toilet at the turn around point which for us was the parking area for those hiking in from the scenic drive end.

Easy trail well worth the hour it takes to do it. Easiest way to get under a major natural bridge we've seen.

Hiked counterclockwise on 93 degree day. Segments of shade gave sufficient relief. Some great views of deep canyons near end. Good sample of Mesa floral variety. Many stretches could be jogged to cut time required. Easy 3 hour hike otherwise.

Best hike near arches so far. This is the one to do if it's really hot and full sun due to many stretches in the shade along the river. Good half day hike. Plan to sit awhile under Morning Glory Arch and enjoy the grandeur.

Great half day hike. The few tough spots have cables or a ladder. Full sun exposure except under the arch itself which is a great place to rest and enjoy for a spell. Trails goes on a bit past the arch but canyon is a dead end.

William Petri reviewed Devils Garden Loop Trail with 7 Arches

We did the loop counterclockwise on the advice of a local. Worked well and meant we climbed the steepest portions instead of butt sliding the rare but tough drops. If you do all the spur trails, I'd plan a full day. Watch cairns carefully. Bring lots of water.

William Petri reviewed Race Brook Falls and Mount Everett

Hiked south from parking area at the end of the Mt. Everett Road to Mt. Everett peak and then on to Mt. Race peak on the Appalachian Trail. Trail mostly easy on rock slabs with a section of moderate incline on the way up and down the south side of Everett. Much enjoyed lunch on Race with 360 degree views. Excellent 4-5 mile, 4 hour hike including return.
