William Bowles reviewed Chained Rock Trail

If you drive to the trailhead at the top of the mountain, where this also a lookout, the trail is all downhill from the top, which means you will have to climb out. Whew! The views, though, are worth it just to see a rock with a big chain on it. Do yourself a favor and read up on the local story about Chain Rock. We were a little confused on the trail because there is a rock where they have signs saying “Don’t walk on the chain’l bit there is no chain. That’s not chain rock. Keep going a little further. :)

There are actually 2 trailheads. If you begin at the entrance that has a trail back to the lodge across the road, which means you will take the trail counter clockwise, it is a much easier incline to the top. The entrance just about a half-block up the road takes you clockwise and is steep uphill and challenging. We hiked it at the beginning of the fall and it was like walking through a jungle.

If you go to the back of the parking lot you will see a trail head and it will say “To the fort.” . For the loop, though, follow the red bicycles painted on the trees. This path is a much more gradual incline and you eventually end up at the fort. If you go early to beat the heat in summer, carry a stick to knock down the spider webs.

William Bowles reviewed Emerson Point Park Loop Trail

FYI, there is no trail called Emerson Loop Trail. There are several named trails and if you combine them you can loop the park. Some are lacking in identification. But, as one local told me it is hard to get lost here, although I took a wrong turn and ended up walking an extra .5 mile. Typical FL trail; flat and sandy, or shell trails. Some boardwalks that will take you to the water where we witnessed manatees feeding near the mangroves.

Easy hike on a gravel trail. Great if you want to see how old Florida scrub land once looked. Lakes and a board walk. Saw plenty of ibis and spoonbills. The upper loop is for walkers only.

A quick little jaunt to the water just off the beach on to sea shell walking path with some boardwalk. My map told me to come down 31st St. which is wrong. It is behind the Citgo in the Ana Maria Vacations shop.

Beautiful trail and also challenging in parts. Besides the falls, the forest is very rain forest like.
