Good trail. Big payoff at the end. Super crowded starting about 10 a.m. Saturday, so try to go early!

Nice variety on this trail - big rock formations, woods and stunning views. We hiked to both overlooks with our pups, and everyone was ready for a long nap at the end.

We camped on one of the loops and hiked during the day with our dogs. What you'll find here is a nice little park with a good variety of backpacking, RV or tent spots.

What you won't find here is anything as it is depicted on the park map. It is more "Picasso" and less "accurate." We drove a lap around the park to actually find the correct trailheads.

Trail 2 (history trail) is a good little loop with an outlook and a stop by the 100% racist "Halfbreed Cemetery." If you've got kids they'll probably dog the old timey candle maker and soap maker people. As we are complete assholes, that didn't interest us at all. The outlook is beautiful.

Trail 11 (nature trail?) is a legit death trap. It's a short, steep loop with a lot of fallen logs up to a decent view. It was a bit muddy, full of loose roots and we had our pups, so this is the only trail ever where the hike up is more fun than the hike down. Have fun spraining your ankle or, if you're graceful like moi, doing a fall/slide combo into a tree while your 15 lbs dog watches you like you're a fool. Glad I finished it, though.

I'd like to go back and do the high trails (7 and 3, I think?) and stay in a spot with a view.

Well maintained off-leash park with a few trails. Otherwise wide and flat.

This is basically a long-ass path. Awesome for running, biking, dog walking, etc. It can get super crowded. I used it heavily when training for a half marathon, and found myself incredibly grateful for the restroom facilities along the way. There is one part where it runs along some ratchet businesses in downtown Merriam, but just keep swimming.

It also goes right by a Sonic, which kept me going during long runs. Smell the grease and think, in depth, about the post-run meal. Jeah.

We got two miles in before we realized we couldn't have our tiny dog with us. We were carrying her in her pack, so she wasn't walking or anything, but two sets of people were elitist dicks about it. So we turned around and left. I cried the whole way back until I got some fruit snacks and a tequila. I have to say, RMNP people are hit and miss on the friendly scale. I found the people in Arches to be super chill in comparison.

What we did hike though was pretty great. Beautiful scenery and a good mix of sun and shade. It's an easy walk to the trail head from town, too. I hope to do the whole thing someday. I also hope the mean people get a little diarrhea. Just enough to ruin their day, but not their week.

Man. This is some fun stuff. The hike up is definitely moderate. Lots of loose rock/gravel and some steep edges. The trail is well marked. The petroglyphs are labeled and easy to see. Just panel after panel of work. Don't be a turd - leave the $5 donation.

My husband and I decided that "Doug" and "Greg" were the guys in charge of the tribe scratchings a few thousand years ago. Doug was really into swirly circles, and Greg preferred plain circles or circles around people's bellies. They both liked designing the jewelry, but had a major falling out when deciding how to depict the high-profile scene. Doug thought the bear needed scarier paws, but Greg was really into his "animal teeth" phase. Only one of them survived work that day. I'll let you decide who after you hike the trail.

^^^ none of that is historical fact, but we DID see a scary snake. So watch out for that.

I like to think I'm a smart gal. I do research on things. I have a mortgage and pay my bills. I enjoy a good book. So listen to me when I tell you that if you hike this in the summer anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you are a damn fool. I wish I could go back in time and tell an aspirational Whitney and Jake "just wait until the sun is out of the 'will literally cook your skin' phase of the day, because the shade does not exist." I think the only thing hotter would be the devil's boxers after he does yard work in July, assuming he wears underwear and doesn't have a gardener in Hell.

Frankly, the terrain isn't tough. There's one part where you scale a flat rock formation like a ninja warrior that I think killed my physical body, but my spirit would not die.

So, aside from the 1.5 mile death march uphill, the payoff is... My god. Unreal. If you can catch your breath from the hike up, you will lose it again when you round the corner and finally view the arch. Nature is a god damn magician. It is totally worth every obstacle and the sunburn (yes I applied sunscreen twice times, Mom).

The curved trail that leads up to the summit is awesome, too, because you can yell and it echoes back. Be sure to scream fun things like "butt," "poop" or anything in a Borat accent - especially if you're two 30-something grown ups.

    Enjoy yourselves, hikers.

Easy lil walk up to the rock formations and great views. If you're up to it, climb that shit and relax inside the arch for a few minutes. Then laugh at people trying to climb it in flip flops.

Beautiful view, and a little tougher to reach than the nearby Windows - I mean like less than a football field away. Sit down, have a snack and enjoy it.

Steep incline, but great views! You have to park and walk at least .5 miles uphill to reach the trailhead.
