I googled trail runs in LA and was grateful I found this location. A relatively short drive from the 405 @ Sunset, the trailhead is well marked although the lot can fill up quickly if you sleep in. There is street parking but do be courteous of the residents driveways. I chose to run the trail parallel to the fire road and was rewarded with challenging hill climbs and descents that went along the ridge. At the 3.6 mike mark is The former missile site with drinking fountain, bathroom and even doggie water bowls. A lookout tower is a good place to compose yourself and stretch for the return. I also noticed the trail continued north into the valley and for future longer runs will follow it all the way out and back. There is plenty of room for mountain bikers, dogs, runners and hikers as long as everyone is courteous. You are rewarded throughout with view of the Pacific, downtown, PV and the valley and mtns to the north. A well maintained trail recommended even if you have only a little time. Packed dirt and gravel with little loose rock.

Having grown up so near here I am a but embarrassed I hadn't found this trail for a run sooner. The trailhead is well marked and easily found across the freeway from Pala Mesa Resort. If you proceed directly to the summit instead of turning left at the cross trail, it will definitely provide a quality hill work out. The panoramic views that include the Pacific Ocean are well worth the effort on a clear day. I enjoyed my run near dusk and was rewarded with purple and orange hues at sunset. The trail is generally firmly packed rocks and dirt although there is some loose rock on the descent by the water tower. I liked the varied terrain at times even hitting pavement before on back side heading south before hitting trail again. The quiet side road near the parking area allows for a nice cool down before heading back to car for stretch. If you're considering this trail, I recommend it.
