Travis Smith reviewed Brown Bridge Quiet Area Trail

Hidden gem that will no doubt get more popular as more and more people find out about it. Love the new bridge they installed that now makes this a loop. Incredible views!

Beautiful! One of the best long hikes in the state. If you want something shorter, take a hike around Deadman's Hill or Landslide Hill.

Hidden gem with a bald eagle nest, stream, and lakes. And connects into the larger Stony Creek trails for free.

Incredible! Started at the Pedestrian Lot, walked along the beach until the Little Sable Lighthouse. Then find Ruckel's Bridge along the road. Ends with a 3 mile hike through open dunes or along the western shore of Silver Lake. Must do! This is a challenging hike - bring lots of water.

Not sure how this trail isn't ranked higher. Perfect hiking trip with a scenic payoff.

This is a great trail. Similar to the Paint Creek Trial and Polly Ann Trail except it is all paved. Perfect for biking.

Love hiking Boyne Mountain and the fact that they open the trail up for free to hikers in the summer. Go to their website for a trail map. Best views at the top!

This trail is gorgeous - and not very well known. The little brother to the Manistee River Trail but very similar and way less people and more remote.

Island Lake Recreation Area is beautiful. Kayaking feels like you're up north (when you get out of distance of the shooting range anyway). Hiking is gorgeous with lots of elevation, sweeping views, and huge sand dunes to climb and go down. Who knew there were big sand dunes in SE Mich? For the best hike, park in the Spring Mill Pond parking lot and then find the bike/hike trails south and east of the parking lot. There's also an awesome little secluded pond you can swim in with sandy banks.

Way too expensive. I don't get how this place can charge more to kayak and hike than an entire year Michigan recreation pass. Beautiful trails and lakes, but they have unfortunately closed it off to the public unless you fork over money.

I love this place. Dunes as far as you can see high above the water and trees. Lots of good hiking.

I can't believe this is in SE Mich. You show up to the park and suddenly there are steep hills everywhere. Love the constant elevation changes on the trails and the dense forest. The most scenic parts of the park are found in the 1) northeast part of the park just south of Maceday Rd and 2) the ridge trail just northwest of the campground that gives you a view for miles.

The primary hiking trail goes from the beach to the campground. For a loop, you can hike the mountain biking trail back to the beach (after checking out the scenic overlook on the bike path just past marker #4). This makes a great loop of 5 or 6 miles.

Top 5 hike in Michigan for sure, if not #1 or #2. Must do it.

Nice trail in the Ortonville Recreation Area although I like the Bloomer Unit better. Very elevated. It's too bad they don't build a lookout or something at the top. You would have some incredible views!

Pretty cool little trail for hiking. Even better area for kayaking. Only drawback is the noisy campground.

The Bloomer Unit is probably the best hike in Ortonville Rec Area. No hunting allowed and the deep woods trails are quiet and peaceful. Unbeatable in the fall!

Beautiful little trail/boardwalk leading to the beach. Wish it wasn't $6 to park, but oh well.

Excellent trail system right in my own backyard. Love the orange loop, especially. Layout is perfect for hiking, biking, and cross country skiing. The paddling is incredible here too.

This is a must if you are in the area! While the views and trails aren't quite as impressive as Arcadia Dunes, the beach may very well be the best in Michigan. Super scenic with towering dunes, remote, and beautiful clear water.

Gorgeous! You hike through meadows and forest and then come to a beautiful sandy path that leads to a couple different destinations. Only issue was the trail had very long grass/weeds in spots. Probably best to wear pants in the summer.

Very difficult - bring water. But the views and the dunes are incredible! Even better are: Sleeping Bear Point Trail or Empire Bluff Trail or Treat Farm Trail.
