This trail is closer to 9 miles. The first section of the trail is easy with basically no elevation gain. The rest of the trail gains elevation pretty moderately throughout the summit. The most challenging aspect of the trail was that it was wet and slippery, making the rockier parts take longer than they typically might. I completed the hike on Columbus Day, and I hardly saw any other people on this trail until I got close to the summit (even then it was still not very crowded given the weather). Unfortunately there were no views during the hike due to the thick fog, but there was quite a bit of exposed ridge line that would probably have great views on a clearer day. Even with no visibility, it was still a great hike and a good way to train hiking in slippery conditions!

Hiked this trail as the first part of a half pemi loop backpacking trip, so I only did it as part of the ascent. It's definitely moderate, although by the time you get to the ladder/stair section it starts to feel a bit long! Definitely a great, easy to navigate trail which is beautiful. There are some beautiful outlooks along the way, although I can't speak to the summit views as by the time I got up to Flume there was a really thick fog settling in. Still a great hike and am excited to re-summit on a clearer morning!

Great trail, well blazed and maintained so it's easy to follow. You will have to park a bit before the trail head as it starts past some private property. Pass by the white farm house on the right, take a left onto Squirrel Bridge road over the little bridge, then continue following a few signs to the actual trail Actual distance ended up being closer to 7 miles. Most of the trail was pretty moderate, getting gradually steeper after the junction with the cutoff trail. Note that the last portion of the trail requires a good amount of climbing which makes it very difficult to do with a dog. I brought along my 11 pound dog so it was possible to hold and boost him along the way, but I can't imagine doing it with a much larger pup. I also would not recommend this trail in rain or high wind due to the climbing! The views on the last half mile are beautiful, definitely worth the scramble.

Great hike! Moderate, steady incline all the way from the Tripoli road trail head to the summit. Beautiful open views a few feet beyond the summit. If you add East Osceola to the hike, it's a bit more challenging (steeper elevation loss and gain, the chimney section) but totally manageable! East Osceola's summit is completely wooded so there are no views, but there is a small outcrop close to the top where offers some nice views.
