Todd Aagard reviewed Mount Adams South Climb Trail

Don’t underestimate Mount Hood. Lunch Counter is 100% snow feee with water. Glissade down was difficult do to icy hard chutes . . We summited at 8:30am.Hard to beat a sunrise at elevation . . Mountain shadow, etc . . But the downside this time of year is the iffy glissade down . . If you want an awesome glissade . . I would recommend a summit time around 11am. I would recommend crampons . . But spikes are probably good enough . . I just wouldn’t take the chance. Summit shack is just starting to come out. Summit weather at 8:30am was puuurfect . .zero wind, blue skies, and 5 Mountains were out: Rainier, Helens, Hood, Jefferson and 3 Sisters.

Todd Aagard reviewed Melakwa Lake via Denny Creek Trail

Such a beautiful hike. I thought the waterfall was called Snowshoe Falls? The wildflowers will be in full bloom by 7/20. But there are other trials with much more wildflowers than this trial. Snowshoe Falls is great. Both Upper Melakwa and Melakwa Lake are picture perfect alpine lakes. The bugs just came out this week . . soooo it’s time to start bringing the bug spray. There is snow past Upper Melakwa to the pass.

Okkkkk . . Need help . . We did not summit. Went to Melakwa Lake. There is boot path on the west side of Melakwa and on the east side of Upper Melakwa and it continues up the valley to the right shoulder of Kaleetan Peak. Couple of questions . . Is there another boot path that approaches the peak from the west side? If so, was it by the “toilet” Sign just before you get to Melakwa Lake? Anddd . . Is there a boot path to the summit going up the valley past Upper Melakwa Lake? We got to 5,220 ft at the eastern base of Kaleetan and turned around. See pic. Wildflowers are out . .I don’t think this trail has a great deal of wildflowers. Crazy scenic hike . . Highly recommend it. Snowshoe Falls along with Melakwa and Upper Melakwa Lake. There are No directional signs at Melakwa Lake. Very easy to get “lost.”

Always such a thrill to be on Mt Rainier. . Always a long day from Mill Creek, WA. By the time you stop for this and that and ohhhhh pizza sounds good . . 14 hour day. But always so worth it! It’s one of my favorite day hikes in Washington State. Trail is almost snow free to the top of Alta Vista. “Route n snow” is about as perfect as you will get going to Muir. Multiple glisade chutes on the way down. . Not concerned with “times” anymore . . Buttttt I think it was a personal best at 1:37 on the way down. Wild flowers will be in full bloom on 7/20/18 in the Paradise area.

What a classic NW Hike . . Thank you. It is snow free since you scramble up the last 300 feet . . No trail . . Just take your time and you will be fine . . Bugs are just starting to come out . .have bug spray available . . Bear grass in full bloom . . Wild flowers will be in full bloom by 7/20/18.

Many people on top today. Everyone took the rope on the 2nd gully. Snow on trail . . Some down trees over trail . . But no medium to hard hazards. Snow should be off trail by 7/14/18.

Gotta be straight with ya, the last 1,000 ft in elevation gain is tuffer than Mailbox. . . add in some water and ya gots yourself a harder trail to come down too. The bear grass and wild flowers are out. Be on the trial by 7am on the weekends for a tad bit of peace and quiet going up. Massive popular hike.

Rocky beach . . Want a sandy beach? . . go to Shi Shi or Kalaloch Beach. Hole in the wall is a great unique feature.

Classic northwest hike . . Even though it’s only 1.5 miles rt . .ya gotta do it. Suitable for most people . . No tripping hazards . . there is a 7% grade directly from the Trailhead, but it flattens out after 500 feet. Beautiful lookout at the end of the trail . . I knoooow . . A long car ride for such a short trail . . A must do!

WTA has this clocked it at 12.0 miles rt with 5,699 elevation gain. Starting at the Marble Mount Snow Park. Don’t under-estimate this climb. It’s ruff for all the obvious reasons. Classic NW climb. Standing on the crater is an unexpected powerful experience.

Went up old . . Came down new: 2:45 up - 2:05 down. The new trail is sooo nice . . I sure appreciate the massive effort that it took to create the new trail. The old trial is a tester . . Very few switchbacks . . Sincerely, it goes up like a ladder. The last 1,000 ft is exposed . . the last 500 feet in 1/4 mile . . Tad bit steep :) Awesome view of Rainier!
