Tina Helmick reviewed Meadowlark Plymouth Creek Short Loop

Perfect for the whole family with its short distance and bikes prohibited. A nice mix of shade, blue skies, and sunshine. For the more competitive climbers, this is not for you. Next time, I will try taking the Plymouth trail to the left at the trailhead to climb further up the hill. It was good for a late afternoon quick trip but not much of challenge for more experienced climbers and athletes. Kind of a lazy stroll through the hills with some neat views of the red sandstone that is everywhere in this area.

Tina Helmick reviewed Beaver Brook and Chavez Trail Loop

Tough hiking the return trip on the Chavez side and I assume not much easier going the other way. Down hill out towards the stream which might seem like a piece of cake at first but don’t be deceived. It feels great to pass all of these perhaps dry creeks to finally reach the real thing on the far side. However, if you don’t read the signs carefully you might find yourself in quite the cliffhanger or at somewhere around a 70-80 degree incline on a seven mile trek towards actual Mount Evans!

This was a great trail with so many loop options if you don’t want to do the whole thing; upper and lower! Although there wasn’t much of a waterfall; perhaps it was a dry spell. The creek, however, was big enough for my small puppy to take a dip and get a drink but small enough for me to jump across on the stepping stones. I recommend this trail for the shade, it’s not too rocky, and it’s length but be careful of the large boulders overlooking the creek... it’s a long way down on parts of the trail.

Tina Helmick reviewed Legault Mountain via Sunny Aspen, Old Ski Run and Lodge Pole Loop

This trail is one of the easier trails I’ve done listed as moderately difficult. Plenty of shade and wide trails. We completed the the hike up to the mountain top in less than 2 hours with a 6 month puppy. There are a few views of peaks in the distance through the trees but mostly forest the whole way up and down either way you choose to go around the loops. A picnic area only about half way to the top of this trail is pleasant, but only one table means only a small party of no more than 5-6 people at most unless you bring your own blankets / chairs. It is paved so no need to sit on the rocky trail or in the dirt and grass. I recommend it as a good place to take newcomers that don’t want to be in the sun very much.

No kidding, the views of Denver and the reservoirs below are spectacular! I’ve been on trails boasting similar but this one blew me away. However, it is a terribly rocky trail so wear appropriate shoes. The relatively steep incline must be endured the whole way as the trail weaves to and fro up the mountain. If you make it to the top, there is a nice shaded picnic area that is on a paved platform with a roof. At this point, the trail becomes quite wide with fantastic views west as well then leading to the ruins of a castle! A whole family really lived at the top years and years ago.

Tina Helmick reviewed Apex and Enchanted Forest Trail Loop

It is a good mix of shade and sunny areas with a variety of trail conditions from mostly dirt to small boulders to climb over. The enchanted forest does appear to be something from a storybook. We seen a variety of wildlife from butterflies of every color, to a herd of deer, a large buck, and even a lost cow on the Cliffside. Of course, we informed the ranger.

It was approximately 3 hours round trip with intermittent rain showers which stopped us for 15 - 20 minutes each time. Our 5.5 month puppy made it through with us and enjoyed a drink from the small stream that runs parallel to most of it. Highly recommend as a moderate trail.
