Tiffany Huett reviewed Wolf Creek Loop Trail #384

I'm excited to do the full loop next time! We went counterclockwise, starting the trail where the gate is on the west side of the forest road. We took that all the way to where it crosses back with the road further south, then walked back along the road to our car. That was a little more than half of the full loop. Beautiful, lots of shade, VERY well marked. Many signs letting us know we were still on #384, with arrows clarifying direction. Parts were hard for me but each hard part was pretty short lived, but be warned if you have below average balance, certain spots are slick. There is no way I would do the full loop clockwise, because there was a section we went uphill for awhile, and when I looked back, it would have been risky for me to go back the same way downhill. I would need hiking poles. I'm quite out of shape, many probably find this trail on the easier side. I look forward to a return to this beautiful section of forest, will also camp here soon.

We didn't complete the whole trail, but we loved the parts we did do, and will be back to finish it :) Absolutely beautiful, and lots of shade!

lots of logging trucks were out there today, and the trees are getting quite barren in places. The part of the hike that's on the forest road is boring. The first sign for the trail is the road next to the bathrooms, just go straight, then it curves right...after about a mile, you'll see a sign with an arrow telling you to veer right at the fork to get to the lake. Head that way about a mile and a half more, still on the road, until you see the left with the bike sign. That's where it turns into a proper "trail", and it's very pretty and green all the way to the lake

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET ALL THE WAY TO INNER BASIN TH IN ANY TYPE OF PASSENGER CAR. I REPEAT, DO NOT! NOT! NOT! I foolishly attempted it but after the first couple miles off the 89 hwy, it became impossible. And shame on a previous reviewer who gave me false hope that it was "possible". IT IS NOT REMOTELY. Not only are there extreme grooves in places, after the first couple miles the uphill is EXTREMELY STEEP. I cannot speak for other detours to other trailheads off the same road, but this one is a no go without high clearance AND A WHOLE LOT OF HORSE POWER....MY LANTA.
