Thomas Mangus Jr. reviewed Hewlett Gulch Trail

Went hiking yesterday 5-7-2018 the entire route. Glad I brought a sandwich, snacks and 3 liters of water, The mileage recorded on my Garmin device (satellite tracking) starting and finishing at the parking lot was a total of 8.5 miles. Flowers were in bloom. Butterflies at water crossings. A group of 9 Bighorn Sheep (males) were on the hillside about two miles into the walk. And no snakes seen. Recommend going in the early AM. And if walking the entire loop, I suggest wearing sturdy shoes.

Out on Sunday morning 11/12/17. Trail well marked. Horses and dogs on leash allowed. No mountain biking.
Parts of the trail were muddy where sun had thawed the ground. Other parts, still frozen or decomposed granite. Did the entire loop. Saw only one large bird sorring in the sky above, two groups on horseback, and four couples on the entire walk. Water still running under the bridge on the trail. Nice hike for some good exercise and serenity.

Went out today for my first time with dogs. Trail well worn, mostly as a single track. Dogs allowed. And Mountain Bikers too. Several water crossings with rocks stratigically placed to help keep your feet dry.
Only went the two miles out and back, which excluded the loop, because of the warm temperatures and exposed trail due to the lack of trees; to keep my dogs safe. Brought plenty of water, but would recommend a very early morning hike if taking your dogs.
    Will definitely return again.

Today I went, vegetation is narrowing some parts of the single track trail. Sounds of Magpies and Red-Winged Blackbirds. A pair of Osprey at the nest located at the South end. And Swallows were feeding their young beside the trail at the Southend. Peaceful. Saw only one couple the entire route which I rode on a Mountain Bike.

We followed the Elkhorn Creek Trail, having downloaded to smartphone, and followed the GPS tracking to make sure we were on the right trail. It was an uninspiring walk on a dirt trail with nice views, but not what we expected ending in some old pasture. More people seemed to have taken the trail on the right of the parking lot, The Lady Moon Trail, to the Disappointment Falls Trail. We actually walked on other trails on the way back and found a trail to the creek, so whoever made this GPS tracking trail should have said it ended in some pasture not 'on a creek trail'. Next time I go back I'll be better prepared to send All Trails a correction with photos to be included.
