Thane Russo reviewed Silver Lake Loop

A decent walk or trail run, not much of a hike. Nice spot to go have a picnic and walk afterwards. This is nice if you are local but not something to drive more than 15 min to go to.

This is a great little spot for locals. Perfect for a nice walk or easy bike ride. This trail is great after a diner at velocity wings or other local eatery in the plaza... Great for nature. Deer, Turtles, and Rabbits. Nothing challenging at all just a very easy walk. It can be made into a loop if you decide to walk back up the sidewalk. Great for bluebells in spring as well. EDIT> ... this is not a trail you would want to travel to, if you are local to the breamar or victory lakes area its a perfect evening walk.

Views are very nice. Hike is not very hard its more moderate. Pay attention to parking its easy to get on the wrong trail at the start and end of the hike. If you go clockwise on the trail its easy to miss Gertrude’s. nose. It’s nothing overly special but many go to look for it specifically. Was about 85 today and beautiful.

I have to say im torn about this hike. Its something everyone should do.. Just something missing about it. The views are very nice at the top but not the greatest. If you are looking for a local hike this is very good. But I would not recommend more than an hour drive for this hike. Parking is very limited. I would not have rated this hike as hard, but more moderate, however it can be more dangerous than hard due to rocks.

I would reccomend the first battle loop first then this. This is a good easy run, and just ok for a hike. The road crossings and ares the trail is connected via the roadways becomes a bit annoying. I would much rather stay on trail the entire time. It offers good views, nice monuments and some beautiful wild life.

this is a great walk or run. I frequently run this loop starting out at the stone bridge and heading out towards matthews hill. Good up and down hills along this stretch. Wooded and open areas. only two street crossings. Several streams, and wild life along this trail. Great during sunset.

This hike has one of the best 360 views i have had the pleasure of enjoying.. The hike is not extremely difficult but can be steep in certain areas. Worth every step. Take your time and enjoy the views!

?? Most of these pictures are not the unfinished rail road. Also the unfinished railroad is not this long. Looks like a nice out and back but not the unfinished rail road trail, its apart of the deep cut, first manassas trail, unfinished rail road, and a few others.

Great hike, can seem a bit longer due to slower pace through the rock scramble, but some great views.

ran this today for about 4 miles. missed the blaze and it turned into a loop back to bull run road. It was ok because of the storm last night. Trail was like a swamp. met a huge turtle at the begining. I will return and finish this trail with 5 -6 mile out back runs. Not interested in this as a full hike.

nothing special here. good for a nice walk, or run. Bikes on this trail make it very muddy during and after rain storms. Good trail not difficult at all. well marked expect for one, but small enough you wont get lost.

I love ruins, and abandoned places as well as hiking. whenever you can combined them together this is a great time. Beautiful area and so much history. Easy hike and what a fun day to spend just exploring the ruins up and down the mountain. If you are in the area this is a must do.

Went on a solo hike today. did the whole out and back. Some great views. the overlook above the hatchery is beautiful. and buzzard rock is very pretty. Birds, lizards, turkeys and other wildlife out on the trail. a few small stream crossings in the first mile or so. Several camp areas and pre made fire pits. Not a difficult hike. moderate at best. Parking holds about 10 cars but its a bit rough if you only have a small car. Definitely recommend.

This loop is not marked, and people should know this before beginning this venture. It was a long walk on a path that you will make on your own. Very fun if this is your sort of thing. Bring extra water, its slow moving in many areas. You will cross the stream several times as you make your way down the side of the mountain. I would not recommend this for a beginner or someone without a map or gps. If you just want to do the marble yard, do the out and and back..
