Attempted 5/2. Looks like the recent snowfall added a decent amount. Road is still covered in 4-5 feet easily. The tracks we followed up the road were halfway covered, no visible trails thru trees as mentioned in posts just days earlier. Used snowshoes at top of road near trailhead, but should have put them on sooner. There were no other footprints near trailhead. Started way too late (8:45) and underestimated the new snowfall, so we headed back. Entire mountain covered in snow, with no visible bare spots till peak. We plan on heading back next week, earlier, and with my snowboard.

Got to the trailhead just before 7pm Thurs night with my buddy and hiked up to treeline. Used headlamps until we found a good spot to camp, and hit the hay by 10pm. We got up later than we had planned around 5:45am, and made our way to the summit. This was my 10th 14er, and the mileage was no joke. The hike from this route seemingly goes on forever after you get above treeline. Enjoy the walk thru the woods early on, because the hike doesn't really start till 11,800. Stay to the left as you ascend the ridge to avoid going too low, and making for a more difficult climb. Amazing views from the summit. Made it back down to camp around noon, and then made the endless descent thru the woods to the car. All in all I imagine this route was more scenic than others, but much, much, longer. We were glad we camped the night before, as this would have been a lot of mileage for a top to bottom trip.

This one makes you earn it. Scenic hike thru the woods to start, and then you hit the "stairmaster"(you'll know when you hit it). Elevation gain gets real once you're out of the treeline. Snow causes a bit of improv when it comes to the trail from about 12,500 on. Cairns will help you from 13,000 on, but go with with what's comfortable, and keep winding up to the left. Head too far right and you'll go well out of your way. Lots of friendly "critters" at the top, and the views were some of the best! Started around 7am and reached the summit by 12:30. Took our time with all the wind, but blue skies. Got back to the car by 3pm. Getting down to about 12,000 can take some time. I recommend sliding while there's snow.

My 2nd time up Quandary yesterday after a couple year hiatus and it didn't disappoint. Had a picture perfect day where you could have been on summit till nightfall. Snowy in spots, but still manageable in boots. I brought spikes but never used em.. to each their own. Easiest and most fun way to get down was sliding down on the rump, so make sure to wear waterproof pants of some sort. Having now done 8 14ers, I can still say Quandary has some of the best views. Enjoy!

Me and my gf camped out a couple miles past the Missouri Gulch Trailhead the night before. The dirt road up is washboardy, but we made it just fine in a 2010 Grand Caravan. This hike was a breath of fresh air after climbing Democrat the week before, which was nothing but rocks. The trail to Belford is steep and beautiful. Winding through the changing aspens on our way to the upper switch backs was awesome. it was incredibly windy, which made the exposure areas a bit menacing, but all and all, a great, physical hike with extremely rewarding views.

Camped out Sunday night at a pretty good spot a couple miles past the trailhead. Still managed to get a late start in the morning, but it didn't matter because the weather was perfect. Beautiful, but steep hike through the woods with great views of the changing aspens. However, as most have stated, Yale saves the toughest parts for last. The elevation gain is no joke. Well worth it for the views, and my 6th 14er!

Started driving west in search of a good hike, and I found it. The trail will push you at times, but isn't anything unbearable. The lakes up top are a great reward. Saw a few groups camping at the top, and I'll most certainly be back to do the same. Beautiful scenery.
