Tara Eddy reviewed Bloods Lake Trail on PRIVATE PROPERTY

I have mixed feelings about this one. 3 stars because it really is beautiful, I'm not denying that but it's SOOOOOO busy and dirty! It's short and simple. Lots of people. Lots of dogs. Lots of garbage. Honestly it's truly sad to see how the land (which is private property) has been treated and how it currently is being treated. It's infuriating to see people, old and young not give a crap! I just can't with society sometimes. I don't think I'll be doing this one again, anytime soon.

Beautiful hike. Did this one at the end of September and the colors were absolutely incredible. I've lived in Utah my entire life and haven't experienced color changes like this. I'd do this again definitely. Steady incline the entire hike. There is a small rock quarry about 3/4 of the way up. Keep to the right. We had a couple people ask which way going back down. A side note- I would advise assuming that ALL trails will be 1-2 miles longer than what is stated on AllTrails. If you are going hiking, bring food, water and some form of element protection. We were asked by multiple groups "if they were close" but they weren't even half way. I want people to be safe out there and not get in over their heads. Please know what you are getting yourself into and please be safe. Respect nature and and you will be rewarded.

I loved this trail. It was chilly in the morning and perfect in the early afternoon. The Red Pine trail is CRAZY busy but once we got onto Maybird trail we saw 3 other people coming down who spent the night up there. I would rate this as a moderate hike and honestly I would do this hike over and over again. It was beautiful! The rocks by the lake have a ton of bees which was mildly annoying but it's nature, what are you going to do. An amazing view of Pfeifferhorn which was great to look at from the hammock.

4 stars because I liked the hike a lot but I have to minus 1 star because this trail right now is WAY overgrown. Not the trails fault I get it, nature and stuff....likes to grow (abundantly apparently) but it really did suck. We started at 8ish am it was 56 degrees going up and on the way down (total hiking time about 5hrs) it was hot and muggy about 87 degrees in the shade. We made it to the very base of the summit and the more experienced hiker wasn't feeling it, at all, so unfortunately we turned around. Which means I have to do this again! Dang. I'll wear pants and have bug spray. Those biting flys are no joke. They mean business and they hurt. Yes the trail is steep. If you can get past the stream and into the aspens your good. I wouldn't say it flattens out but it mellows out. Still inclined, a few switchbacks and then it's mellow until the saddle. Getting to the base is intense. It was for me. Think steep leg burner all over again. Take it slow if you need, watch your footing and breathe.

It was a nice hike especially to get out of the summer heat in the valley. There is still snow covering parts of the trail once you get past Lake Mary. The ground is wet, muddy, snowy, slushy icy and you need to be very careful in some parts. We saw a couple of people biff it right on their butts and they were lucky they weren't on the thinest steepest part of the trail just before you get to Lake Catherine. Whatever you do outdoors play it safe. Great hike beautiful scenery and the pine smell in the air is amazing!

I love this trail. Even though it's easy, it is still one of the prettiest out there. You get a good variety of scenery. Mostly shaded which is a godsend in the summer heat. Long gradual switchbacks, some climbing up small rocks and a thin trail is what you're in for. Went up at 4:45pm on a Thursday after work and the parking was way full but the trail wasn't bad at all. Not very many flies either. My friend and I got bit only once. Spending 30 min at the top, it took us 2hrs 15 min. 1hr 45 min of actual hiking.

Like others have said the incline for the first 20-30min is a good workout. You'll break a sweat for sure. The incline is shaded which provides a lovely atmosphere. Once you get to the flat area to the overlook, the trees clear and the trail thins. AMAZING views of Millcreek canyon and the north side of Mt. Olympus. We met bikers, runners and super cute dogs on the trail.

Beautiful hike. There is a small amount of snow at the very top but it's easy to walk over. The lake is partially covered in snow but it makes for a beautiful scene to look at. Go early if your hiking on a weekend it's getting busy up there.
