Love this HARD hike but FYI the trail is closed for August due to high heat! We showed up at 6 am with tons of water and found closed sign and had to divert to mission trails. Def hike when cooler!

Gorgeous hike! Lots of shade, and epic views. MUST HAVE TRAIL PERMIT AND ADVENTURE PASS to hike this trail and park. You can get the free trail pass at the Ranger Station in Idyllwild and also purchase parking passes for $5 there. They limit the trail passes to 30 per day so get it early! You can list 12 people per pass. Enjoy!!!

Directions on All Trails are good, leads to a small parking area at trailhead. That being said, you MUST pay attention to red GPS trail in the APP to locate place where you leave the reservoir road trail and head up. The trail is extremely overgrown and very hard to track. We managed to do so ONLY by using the red lines on the map and the rock totems that people had left previously. Very challenging portion basically rock climbing up a cliff is included, so don't do this hike if you don't have solid upper body strength. Trail is VERY overgrown so also wear long pants, we got scratched to bits. Upside is a gorgeous trail, gorgeous views from the butte and all along trail of the lake. Was about 6 miles RT per our GPS tracking. Enjoy!

Straight up via switchbacks and pretty rocky trail, but very pretty views at top and it's a nice quick trail for a great workout! Park along road to left once you hit the area with space for cars and start trail at the spray painted rocks. There is a false summit so keep going until you find the rock formations and mountain peak markers.

Funnest most challenging trail I've done in a while! Gorgeous views and no one on the trails. Be prepared for steep inclines as you get close to Peak, a bit of bouldering, rope climbing to get up into cave and scrambling steep rocks to get to Peak. Well worth it for the relaxing gorgeous views! We added Gaskill Peak to the east, and that trail is overgrown, and very steep. You have to free climb some steep rocks to get to Peak, but was doable and found the geocaching boxes and was able to write in the journal that we made it! We were covered in scratches from the bushes on this trail but was super fun. Combined with Lawson's made it 7.4 miles!

Gorgeous trail! Currently pretty buggy in the swampy areas near water source and still has swarms of flying ants at peak. Very lush and gorgeous otherwise. We were able to enjoy time at top by going to left of Peak and finding some rocks that were below the swarms. Also go early if want to beat the summer heat.
