Nice little trail for after work exercise or something if you're local, but nothing to go out of your way for. I am about 10 minutes away and my son and I will race up the trail. As one of the other reviewers said, you come through this peak when taking the M and M trail across the Mt Tom range which is definitely worth the trip. You get a pleasant view of Easthampton from the bench and a nice view towards the Seven Sisters from the tower. Great day hike if you have adventurous little ones. Not sure where the tracking shown on the map is going, but it's certainly not Goats Peak.

David Sullivan reviewed Saddle Ball Mountain

Saddle Ball is a heavy moderate trail. I did it with some avid hikers that kept me moving at a quick pace. Has a long steep uphill near the beginning, a few steep up and down hill sections afterword with a few rock scrambling sections, and some plank covered paths through the marsh's. Has a nice view out at Jimeny Peak, but other than that, nothing else to tremendous. We went when the raspberries were ripening, so we had some nice fresh fruit along the path. Other than that, not a wasted afternoon, but a lot of effort with only a little pay-off.

David Sullivan reviewed Mt Tom Traverse via the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail

Note: My review is on the M and M, Mt. Tom section, not on the trail mapped out on this page, which is only a portion of the M and M. This is a white blazed trail with spectacular views as a large portion of it traverses the cliffs. It starts along Rt 141 across from the Holyoke Animal Hospital and goes to the Oxbow in Northampton. I've uploaded some photos showing the trip during the summer and fall. It is one you for sure want to bring your camera on. The one negative concerning the trail is the natural beauty of the cliffs is sadly riddled with graffiti by pathetic delinquents, but if you look past that, the views are great. I am frequently on this mountain living about 10 minutes away and there are so many beautiful picture opportunities.
In the first mile of the trip, there is a red blazed trail to the right that detours you around the other side of the mountain to a site where a B-17 plane crashed on it's way home with soldiers during WWII (pics uploaded). It's a nice memorial and if you go behind the memorial there is a path that leads you back to the M and M.
Also, during the last mile or so you come across an old road. The trail takes you down that road to the left, but if you make a right and follow that road a ways you'll come to a turnaround with a lookout of the Oxbow and just past that on the right you'll see a path leading a short ways to the Eyrie House ruins (pics also included). I'd say it's about 3/4 mile round trip back to the trail and well worth the detour.
    Happy trails!
