Great trail, beautiful views of Mt. Baldy throughout and nice varied terrain and elevation gain. Decent amount of shade, although lots of the trail is exposed too.

One note: I would HIGHLY recommend you use the trailhead that is a little further east on the map instead of the one marked on the GPS map here near the sharp curve of the highway. If you start where the red line on the map starts, you’ll have to traverse a very narrow and unsafe section where it would be far too easy to have catastrophic fall down onto the highway. The second trailhead is much safer and can also be seen on the map, maybe 100 feet or so further down the road to the East. Both trailheads connect to the main trail very quickly after the beginning, so no time or views are lost.

Did this as an out-and-back to the summit in the reverse order of how it’s listed on the app instead of a loop. Great hike if you’re looking for something on the quicker side/closer to the city but still want to get some great views and elevation gain. Trail gets pretty narrow at points, but easy enough to navigate for anyone, so not an issue unless you’re super sensitive to exposed ledges. The summit is very nice and were able to see the ocean and Catalina Island very clearly. Didn’t do the loop because we wanted to skip the fire road, seems like it’s better as an out-and-back unless you wanna kill some time. Have hiked the fire road to Inspiration Point before and it’s much less interesting than the Mt. Lowe trail.
