. We did this last weekend in sept. Awesome. Lower part of park is not as crowded. We mostly had place to ourselves. Bring water and salty snacks and heat gear. Time it right to for temp. Will be hot at base but windy and nice climbing to peak. Peak is some boulder scrambling which is fun. This app was crucial for navigation. The “loop” was a bit confusing. Basically like the head to the peak, come back from the peak to where you went off trail and head toward the signs for camp sites. Lotta micro terrains. Old mine shaft. Oasis Super fun.

Great trail. Get there little early to beat the rush though it was never to bad. Def thins out lower you go. Views are great. Explore around the cedar stop. Shade here too. Def bring more water than you think especially if you don’t allow of dry and elevation hikes. Layer up to stay warm at top then shed towards bottom and way up. Salty snacks to fuel and help Retain water. It’s dry so you don’t know you’re sweating, not like the humidity we have back on east coast. If windy, Bring something to block dust from your nose and mouth. On the way down you’ll see people huffing and puffing on way up but don’t fret it’s mostly altitude change. Slow down on flats or take a picture break and your heart rate will get back to base line.

It’s philly hiking so set the expectation. The trail was in great shape and nice escape for city hiking. Will see some trash on the trail but doesnt hurt to do your part and pick some up. Started at the mansion hostel. Parking close by horse stable. Trail head is the one on the right if using gps, left is hostel trail. Dog and I took trolley trail out to the road. Turned left uphill then up the stairs , straight through and took connector and wild mouse trail back to hostel trail out. Actually liked wild mouse better, more variety in terrain. About four miles. Took us about a hour. Saw less than five other people on the trail. Trail markers are to be desired but the app works pretty well. There are a bunch of off loops to extend the hike or explore
More. there a bunch of unmarked trail heads on wild mouse the app doesn’t pick up which can get tricky navigating but a wrong turn won’t cost you much time. We went during Labor Day weekend. Not very buggy which was a plus. Def will be back

We went in winter. Snow was mostly cleared off trail. Easy out and back with cool
Views of the water frozen over and mountains in background.
