Went in late August. There was no water so we got to climb all the way to the top which was nice. Great hikes for kids.

There are two inclines (if you can call them that) which don't even get your heat pumping.

But it is a nice relaxing walk.

The first mile up is incline switchbacks. Then you get to a railed off point with great views of Half Dome. Most people turn around after that point. But if you pass the switchbacks keep going because the hardest part is over. The next mile is easy; the trail is either flat or down incline. The rest of the trail is up incline "stairs/steps". Once you get to the top there are two viewpoints. One clearly labeled "overlook" with breath taking views of the Valley. The other point is not labeled (follow North Dome sign) it's where the water of the water falls are. If the falls are dry there'll be swimming holes which you can use to cool your feet. If the falls are blooming you can stand over the water on the bridge.

Take 2.5-3 liters of water per person, lunch and snacks.

It's a boring trail but great workout. As you're going up you're facing away from the water so you don't get nice views going up. Going down you get a bit more views but not that many. There isn't a lot of shade so if it's hot bring lots of water. I wouldn't rate this as difficult, it's a moderate hike.

No views during the hike. Boring hike. But it is a killer work out. Be ready to wait to take pictures with the stick. It's like a photo session up there. Take plenty of water because there isn't any water during the hike and you will want/need the water.
