review is for the overlook specifically. see other review under granite via highline. going up is a real challenge but doable with breaks. we went up to the very top which felt slightly treacherous with the wind and likelihood of dying if slipping. AMAZING views though. once in a lifetime. my fear of falling kicked in coming down from very top and then coming down the trail portion. I did freeze a few times but people without this phobia did fine. overall with freezing, took 2 hours to go up, spend time at top, and come down. highly recommend but be ready for a workout. knees kill a bit coming down also.

amazing experience!! we parked in Piegan Pass area, since Logan was a mess, and took shuttle to trailhead. The wall was truly nothing scary and I am terrified of falling ( see later on ). amazing views. super nice hikers. saw mountain goats, marmots, so many chipmunks, squirrels. other hikers saw a grizzly but we did not. we then reached the glacier overlook and did it. MAN, that 0.6 miles ( plus more to get to the actual top top) is a KILLER. this is where my fear of falling kicked in- coming downhill. also very hard on the knees. got to the chalet and hung out for a few moments. loop trail down was actually amazing steep on descent and further killed my poor knees. we thought the shuttle went to 7pm, but as it turned out, 6:28pm was the last pickup from Loop. so we found great people to hitchhike.
next time we come to glacier, we will probably try reserving a night at the chalet and doing back and forth routes. chalet looks like a super cool experience.

wonderful hike. heads up the sign says 5 miles round trip but it was 7 miles. there is still snow about 2 miles up and although crossable, please use caution. saw someone hiking in flip flops which was sort of alarming.

this rating is for the upper loop, which I came back today to do. Only saw a few bikers and varying terrain with a little bit of elevation as a challenge.
