Well maintained and clean trail with great views at the top. Wide variety of plants and fungi along the way. A pleasant dog that lives nearby decided to join us on the hike but they are not typically permitted as it is a state nature preserve.

Great hike with awesome vistas and interesting geology. Photos don't come close to representing Knobby Rock or the ancient forest. The trail system is about 5 miles total. There are 2 loop trails (Knobby Rock & Sand Cave) and one out and back (Watts Creek). l would recommend doing all of them. When you get to the fork to go to the Sand Cave from the Knobby Rock trail, take the Sand Cave trail. It loops back around to the Knobby Rock trail about 40 feet from the initial fork. If you take this route you will not only see the Sand Cave but you'll also go through an area known as the Maze - a rock scramble beneath a rockhouse. We went on a Saturday afternoon and only saw 1 other person on the trail. Very peaceful and a great opportunity to see wildlife and many plant species.

Fair, moderate hike. The views at the end are nice if you can get to the highest viewpoint, but unfortunately there's only room for about 2 people. Trail is mostly shaded and wet in several spots. The parking lot was full, but only a few folks ventured onto the trail. There is a restroom at the trailhead.

This place is beautiful and otherworldly. We saw a bald eagle flying over the hoodoos during our visit - a reminder to keep our National Parks sacred and protected.

Variety of changing landscapes with lots of opportunities for photos. It's deemed one of the best scenic drives in America for a reason - don't miss it!

Nice brief hike. You must cross the creek to finish the trail. There are rocks strategically placed to help you cross, but they could disappear under water after a rain. The waterfall that is supposed to be on this trail is on private property and there are signs posted to tell hikers to stay out. Even without the waterfall, the creek is nice and the trail is pretty easy and relaxing. The trail will come to a small paved road - if you go left, the trail continues about 500 feet before ending at a gate and if you go right you will see a few more points of interest. I saw several plants I have never seen before on this trail and apparently they have a guided nature walk from time to time to areas with more rare flora and fauna.
