There is a reason why this hike is probably one of the most hiked trails in Washington. The trail is clearly marked the entire time which makes it easy to navigate. I think it’s pretty cool that for the majority of the hike up to the middle view point for the falls, you’re hiking along the river. Nothing beats the sound of a river throughout your hike accompanied by bird song. I didn’t make it all the way to upper falls but the middle falls lookout point has an incredible view of the entire length of the falls. As always, please pick up your stuff when you go. If you pack it in, please pack it out. I do recommend getting to this one early though so you can enjoy the trail to yourself like I did.

Short and sweet, yet still a great workout. There is quite a bit of snow half way to the lookout so I decided to use my microspikes just to add a bit more traction to my older hiking shoes. The view from the top is beautiful, and only had to share the lookout with one other hiker. For the most part, I had the trail to myself the entire time.

Important——One thing is, the trailhead is located on hwy 2, so if you’re coming from the west make sure you are aware that this sneaks up to you. It’s on the left of highway 2 if you’re heading east and you will have to turn across the highway with little notice. Could be unsafe for some.

I’ve done this hike many times and I have reviewed it once before- however, I went today 1/20/18, and it was the best experience on this trail I’ve had. Started out very rainy and cold but the trail was clear of any impassable run offs or standing water. Once I got to the ledge it was all snowy. I ended up unpacking my microspikes so I could get a better view safely. Was gorgeous and since I went early enough, the ledge wasn’t packed like it normally is on a later spring morning.
