An incredible hike. We got to trail head and is was full at 545am on Sunday of Labor Day. We parked at Bear Lake which is larger parking and hiked to Alberta Falls to pick this trail up. The last bit of the Loch trail was steep so we had to catch breath a couple times. The Loch is gorgeous. We moved on to Lake of Glass. The steps up to waterfall was steep. The waterfall was fun but slick. SkyPond was crazy cool. If you go as far as lake of glass on top of falls...keep going to Sky pond it's easy.

The hike down was crowded as the crowds were catching up to us but coming up. We had to wait at falls to find a clear opening to get down. It took us 6 hours round trip but we stopped and enjoyed the lakes. We also recorded 12 miles and not the 8.4 this shows.

A really great hike. We parked at Fern Lake Shuttle then shuttled to Bear Lake.

The trail starts up right away and is steady for about 2 miles. You hit the first snow field that covers the trail at about 2 miles. You go straight from the trail follow the dirty snow pack and find the other side about 50yds away.

You are flat to inclined for another mile or mile and half. The top is gorgeous. The Mountains and waterfalls are stunning.

The hike down is steady with one tricky snow field. I would suggest trekking poles for some comfort but I saw a few people who did not use. It's a rocky trail down past Odessa, Fern, Fern Falls and the pool. It gets flat to rolling from the pool back to the lot. I clocked 10.4 miles to the Fern Lake shuttle parking from Bear Lake. Highly recommend.

Stairs and more stairs. It is a beautiful view and small lake though. First half of hike is stairs.

I have to admit I was scared of this climb based on the name and the reviews. We did the stair climb in 1 hour 50 minutes. I'm fifty and not a thin rail.

It was great fun and we loved crossing the stream and picking our way up. The stairs are the best part of hike as other have said.

We took the shorter fire road down and finished the entire hike in 3 hours and 15 minutes. This was nice not many people but it is a steady decline down from the trail fork at the top. Sore toes from jamming the boot.

Beautiful day about 75-80 degrees. Good calorie burn.

Always a good hike. Have done a few times. The top is nice rock scramble to top on north side. As others have said it is busy, but we saw lots of deer on the hike aug. 11th. Do this hike and you won't regret. It's a workout for me.

Good trail . Close to haymarket and lots of options to change the way up or down. Can be busy but never too busy to not go.

We love this short hike. It has so much in a short span. The rock scramble is a great test for Old Rag. If you don't like bear fence don't try old rag. The view is beautiful from the top and the hike includes a short piece along the AT. Nice forest view along the way with flowers.

We did this after Thanksgiving. Steady downhill for almost two miles at the start. Water was low but still a nice hike. You will pass an old copper mine along the way near the red bridge. A good climb out to the dark hollow split and where the fire road begins to take you back to the parking lot at Fisher Gap and skyline. Not much to see on fire road - this part of hike is easy as it is just a slight grade the rest of the way. Not much wildlife at this time of year and season. Look forward to another go in the early spring.
