Scott Stahr reviewed Underground Railroad Experience Trail

This trail really should be an out and back instead of what is being shown on this website. I'd recommend picking up a trail map at the visitor center before getting started as there are various points on the trail that are marked that have little blurbs about them on the map.

The trail is very nicely maintained and for the most part well marked if you do the out and back. I wouldn't recommend trying to follow the trail map on this site. It will take you into a field where there isn't really a marked path.

Definitely would not classify this as a moderate trail; it's almost completely flat. Was really peaceful once you get off the Lone Wolf Trail which is paved and runs along a bunch of houses. The trail is well maintain and takes you through some pretty marshlands and a field perfect for checking out wildlife. Would like to go back once spring arrives and everything is in bloom. Not entirely sure where to park for this trail. There's a sign in the parking lot saying for residents only but we rolled the dice and were fine.

Enjoyed this trail. Lots of rocks in the trail so watch your step! The view from the king and queen seat is breathtaking but also crowded. The rest of the trail did not offer great views but was very peaceful. Only ran into a few other hikers outside of the king and queen seat.

Gorgeous trail! The trail is very well marked with pale blue blazes and sign posts to direct you where to go at crossroads. The only confusing point was the out and back portion. There isn't a marker to let you know that you need to turn around. You'll start seeing signs for private property and that's when you should turn around and head back the way you came. The trail offers great river views and some pretty cool rock formations. We will definitely be doing this trail again!

We loved this trail. Downhill in it's entirety on the way out and uphill the entire way back. Take it slow on the way back and you should be OK. Be careful as several parts of this trail are slippery when wet. The trail features a waterfall and is very beautiful. I would recommend this trail to anyone.

We were not fans of this trail. Leaving the parking lot, there's a small pond which was pretty nice but that's about as good as this hike gets. The trail features power-lines and goes under Interstate 70 which you can hear for most of the hike. A portion of the trail is paved which we were also not fans of. The out and back portion leads to an underwhelming view of the Patapsco. The trail itself is well maintained and for the most part is marked pretty clearly, just follow the blue trail marks. We probably won't be doing this hike again.

One of our favorite hikes in the area. Very nice hike with moderate hills. The blue trail is the cascade trail which features a waterfall and is more heavily trafficked. This loop can be modified to be longer and shorter based on how long you'd like to go.

This trail wasn't what we were expecting. More of a service road than a trail, most of the trail is enclosed in overgrowth with a few spots to peak out at the water. The bay-side of the trail did offer more views of the water including a view of the bay bridge. Perhaps the most prominent feature of this trail are the three metal towers in the middle of the loop that really take away from the aesthetic of the hike. Overall this is a decent trail if you're in the area but I wouldn't make a trip out to go see this. We will not be doing this trail again.

We really enjoyed this trail. We took the orange marked mid state trail down the falls and the red marked sand run trail back. The mid state trail was definitely a more enjoyable hike with conifers lining the trail for most of the hike while the sand run trail on the way back did not have much scenery and ran along a fence for a little while. Next time we'll probably do the mid state trail in an out and back. The falls are an amazing pay off for this trail and are incredibly beautiful. We would recommend this trail just to see them!
