Scott Coburn reviewed Blue Mountain Trail to Blue Mountain Fire Tower

Actually icy spots on the trail today. Time to start getting the winter gear in the pack. Very enjoyable hike. Some steeps but not too long. Great views from the tower. The communication towers nearby detract from the natural beauty although it is nice to have a signal.

Hiked with my son on 9/11. Nice hike. The trail is “odd” since the lower portion is being changed for school kids and possibly horseback riding. It has been widened and gravel covered. The trail markers are a series of different colored ribbons. Rewarding views at the top.

Part of the fire tower challenge. Quiet hiking day as no one else had logged in. Short hike with enough incline to make you work. Nice views limited by the low cloud cover. Interesting “Rock puzzle” just off of the trail and boulder at the top.

Wow, it is beautiful up here. Hiked with my wife and a great family. Great experience and tremendous views.

Second fire tower today. Views from atop tower are well worth the hike. It was fairly crowded being a Saturday on a holiday weekend. Great for the whole family.

As advertised. Easy start, tougher finish. Saturday on Labor Day weekend so quite a few hikers out. Many had dogs hikers and dogs well behaved. 1 of 2 for the fire tower challenge today. Good day for an outing. Great views from the tower.and near tower for those who don’t like heights.

Great views. At about 1.3 Miles approaching the cabin I was thinking what designates a hike as hard v moderate? Then it got markedly steeper. I think myself and 2 others were the only people on the trail today. Thankfully on the way down I found Abby’s phone and saved them a trip back up the trail Trail was mostly dry and not many bugs. Great day.

Great hike with my youngest. After the rain the falls was flowing nicely and the Hudson River was being enjoyed by numerous rafters. 4hr and 20mon with some time spent at the river.

As advertised. The initial trail is well maintained with an interesting array of “bridges” over wet areas although today it was pretty dry. The final climb is over a washed out creek/trail leaving loose stones and rocks, making the hike a challenge. The view from the “summit” and fire tower is well worth it and the reason for the climb.

Definitely check out the scenic overlook beyond the fire tower. Great views from there as well as atop the tower, or at least to just below the top. The only drawback, for me, is that I prefer more of a hiking path than a seasonal roadway.

Scott Coburn reviewed Kane Mountain North Trail Loop

Did the loop. Nice well marked trails. Great view from the fire tower. The trail is relatively easy with some wet areas, but mostly in good shape. Family friendly as I joined a family of nine and all ages at the top.

Scott Coburn reviewed Hurricane Mountain Trail: Northern Approach

Hiking after a spring snowstorm of 6-8” of wet snow may not be the best idea. The going was slushy, slippery and wet. Thanks to the gentleman who blazed the trail today, markers are scarce. The first mile is easy. After that it is a pretty steady incline. It was a perfect sunny day and the view from the top did not disappoint.

Nice trail with a great view. The trail is actually a dirt road for the most part. They are working on making new trails and the creeks and reservoir are nice. The view from the top is the highlight of the hike. Trail was mostly dry.
