S H reviewed Summit Lake Trail

Beautiful hike, not too difficult. Tons of camping spots, including one that overlooks the lake up top. The lake is strikingly blue, even on a cloudy day. Will have to return for a cloudless day to see Mt. Rainier from the lookout.

No toilet at the trailhead (people made their own toilet pits in the dirt), but there is a primitive toilet when you reach the lake. The trail is in excellent condition, but the road is not. Very rocky with potholes. I wouldn't say 4x4 or AWD is absolutely necessary, but clearance is. Even if you drive very carefully in a low clearance vehicle, you may damage the underside.

Beautiful views of the ocean. Some parts of the trail is VERY muddy so beware! Also the wind is very strong here.

Easy and beautiful trail! The last ice cave has a beautiful waterfall at the end of it if you peek down it from the right angle. I would recommend staying on the designated trail though. Avalanche debris field galore if you veer off!

@Lisa Nguyen - Yes, a Discover Pass is required. They have an automatic kiosk available for day pass purchase at the parking lot.

BEAUTIFUL falls, and you can stand right next to it! The last 1/2 mile is rather challenging when compared to the rest coming up. The view is so worth it though! Bring a jacket, because you will get wet.
